Is because blinking is a reflex that is started by a sudden noise. Studies show that women react more quickly than men to these sudden noises, and blink both twice as hard and often as men.

And to make it full: "Another interesting piece of data; lesbians will blink less severely than heterosexual women, and gay men will blink more severely than heterosexual men. Because blinking is a reflex and isn't learned, some argue that the rate of your blinking can determine whether you will grow up to be homo or heterosexual"

Funnily enough, my friend and I were having a discussion about how much chicken people eat, and how there couldn't possibly be enough in this world to feed us all. If each person ate at least one chicken a day (some have the capability of doing more - tried it myself!), would there still be enough chicken to go around in the years to come?

P.s. Yes we have strange conversations!

Before I knew more about "Microwave Radiation", I felt the same way. I always associated the word Radiation with something that is radioactive, but in this case it just means that a signal is radiating from an antenna. A microwave is basically any signal that is transmitted at a high frequency (300MHz - 300GHz), cell phones communicate using microwave signals, along with wifi, cordless phones, etc. The only difference between the signal from your phone and the signal inside the microwave is the amount of power output.

The word Microwave comes from the fact that the wavelength is shorter at higher frequencies - the wavelength is the amount of time it takes for each cycle to complete in a sinusoidal signal:

If you increase the frequency, it takes less time for a cycle to complete, making the wavelength shorter. Get to a high enough frequency, and they call it a microwave.

Now, you take that signal with a very short wavelength, increase the power, and point it at some food. It will cause the molecules to vibrate and rub against each other, causing friction which heats up the food.

The reason it's dangerous to living things, is because it causes those vibrations at a molecular level, and can change the cells inside your body, possibly causing cancer (which is essentially unregulated cell growth starting from an abnormal cell). In comparison, a radioactive source fires off parts of atoms that can pass through your body and change some cells along the way, again possibly causing cancer.

So you're not adding anything to the food you heat up in a microwave oven, you're just firing a signal at it to shake things up a bit.

And now you know... the rest of the story.
