Sometimes people are motivated more by moving away from something they do not like, other people get motivated by think about moving toward something they love. This is the fundamentals from Freud's Pain/Please Principle, if you can figure which way you are motivated the majority of the time you can adjust your strategies. For instance people for who are motivated by moving toward pleasure having a board with pictures of your goals such as a house you want to buy, ext..

Other people who get motivated by moving away from pain my want to see their mortgage payment like @davemerry said. Everybody is different, however one thing that I have done is notice what is motivating me now versus what motivated me when I started my websites. For instance when I started I may have wanted to buy a car, but if I bought the car or just do not care about cars anymore then why am I building my sites(a question I ask myself)? Perhaps now my personality has changed and I am more of the moving away from pain type, looking at a mortgage bill may get me moving.

There is a very good book called Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman. Another great book is Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill which you can download the EBook for free. BTW I am not a DR/PHD, I just have a backround in psychology

Big things like the mortgage play a part, but they sometimes depress me more than motivate!
what short breaks have you done Dave, I love my travel/holidays, Copenhagen, Zurich, Amsterdam, Malta (Sliema), Berlin and Bruges are weekends or short trips I've managed the last year or so

Just think of what is most important to you and in achieving your goal/s...Children, paying off your house loan, having a established business some day where ppl are working for you... Its not easy but the best way to get there is but keeping your targeted goal in mind. A very wise person once told me ' Do you want to live or exist???'

Hope this help you as much as it does me!!

    Regards,
    Rebecca.

Yep, mortgage and bills keep me going. If I won the lottery tomorrow, I'm not sure if I would ever work again

For me, having done too many crap jobs to last me a lifetime is my motivation - from working in stale, boring offices with stale, boring people and god-awful banter, through to tramping the streets in all weathers with heavy bags when I was a postman for relatively peanuts pay (which was more enjoyable than the office might I add!).

A few general tips for motivation:

    - Make lists, keep the tasks small, even if task might be 'update page x' and it might be a 5 minute job, put it on a list, give yourself a lovely tick/cross it out when done.
    - Take lots of breaks, if ever I feel pissed off I just give myself a long break
    - Work when you're ready to work - I'm a night person, I work well at night when it's quiet, find out when you work best and do that, 9-5 doesn't work for me at all, I rarely start work before 11am and usually have an afternoon nap!
    - Take exercise/get a dog, give yourself a break outside of sitting in front of the computer.
    - Keep your work varied, don't just do one thing all the time, try a completely different site to what you have got currently - maybe promote something completely different to the gambling niche, keep it fresh for yourself
    - Outsource any work that you truly hate. Even though I can build websites pretty well, i do outsource a lot of the work as I hate sitting there grappling with technical issues, I prefer to oversee everything and spend time on the theory/strategy rather than all the technical stuff, I write most my own articles though.

I would get bored, only so much shopping, relaxing and holidaying you can do. I would buy some properties and a bar somewhere warm & sunny (definitely not England at the minute!)

For me - finding motivation isn't the problem - its finding time! And now that I have a little one in the family.. have to be very methodological and dedicated with how i spend my time.

But it help.. that I found something I really enjoy, and I get a kick out of working on my projects and sites. Even just talking about it, makes me want to get out and read, code, launch.
