My recent experience with PPC on Google.

Here's a quick update on my recent experience with running a PPC campaign on google for the UK.

I went through all of the red tape on setting up a portal specifically for white listed sites in the UK. The requisites required me to spend a lot of time on new properties. When my portal was approved, I set up a campaign. I am familiar with the keywords I was targeting. I set up the main keywords and the long tail keywords I was hoping others would miss.No one is missing anything. It's not the 90's, PPC is an art and the advertisers know what's going on.

My conclusion is that the cost of acquiring a player on PPC (to a Portal) is too cost prohibitive. The average bid per click, for a medium competitive term was about 20-70 pounds. I don't know what your click to deposit ratio is, but these numbers are no where near profitible even for a online casino.

Maybe, directing a campaign directly to a casino you could work something out to come ahead, or at least knock off the increased cost as marketting/branding excercise.

PPC for a portal, not worth it on my expertise level (average).

Regardless of the outcome, I know that re-evaluating potential advertising streams is important. Organic search is still my main source of traffic.

I was using goggle Adwords for a couple of years for my retail site but then Google went to bidding and I had to pay 2-3 times as much for the same keywords just to maintain the same ad postions.

Before the keyword bidding, the Adsense clicks would easily cover the cost of the PPC. Plus I think Google lowered the amount they paid for hosting Adsense ads as well.

That is insane!

I remember when I started in iGaming marketing, we were bidding about 2.50 for the better terms.

To make a GBP70 CPC work, you better have an exceptional conversion rate.

I have done very little with my gambling account there tbh, however, i have managed a few decent keywords for about £2/3 for top 3 positions.

I think when i start to use it properly i will soon give up if it is going to cost me £50/70.

I have had campaigns running for 3 months or so, done lots and lots of research, tweaking - all sorts and got some very good quality scores (7 - 10). But I've reached pretty much the same conclusion. It may be worth the aggro if you have £10k + a month to throw at it but even then there are far cheaper ways of getting conversions.

I am keeping it on for a handful of long-tail terms I found were OK at 10p a click, but it's only providing a slow drip of players so for how long I don't know.

Got to be honest and say I waaaaay prefer the old Google PPC method where you bid for a position. This new way costs a fortune and is a full-time job.

Its been few years since I did ppc so what is the new way as I was under the impression that bidding was the new way?

I always thought that PPC is for direct market not for three way redirects. Services and Product selling is much compatible for PPC but not for acquiring just potential gamblers.

PPC will be costly even if you have other ads or big time advertisers in your site.
