    Default My site and MSN

    Here are my stats:

    Current Rankings:
    PageRank: 3/10
    Alexa Rank: 1,558,161

    Incoming Google Links: 16
    Incoming Yahoo Links: 509
    Incoming MSN Links: 0
    Incoming Alexa Links: 18
Overall Incoming Links: 543 (Overlap is possible - Estimated 509 unique links)
Outgoing Links: 28 (Ratio: 0.571% - Each Link Receives Approx. 0.091 PR)

I'm really wondering why MSN doesn't pick up any links whatsoever? That seems really strange to me, unless they are penalizing my site for some reason.

My site was penalized by Google a few months ago (when they did an update). What I was doing on my site was perfectly acceptable until their update. I figured out why I was penalized (still doesn't make sense to me though), changed the site accordingly, and I was re-included in less than a week (about 2 weeks ago). My Alexa rank was below 1M before getting penalized and it is getting better now. Could this be why MSN doesn't "see" any links?

Anyway, I know there's not a lot of info, as I have no idea why MSN behaves the way it does. I've only really concentrated on Google SEO (what I know of it anyway). If you need more info, or a link to my site, just let me know and I'll provide it. BTW, Google actually sees hundreds of links to my site if I search by domain (without link, so I also don't know why my stats show only 16 links. I rank fairly well for my targeted keywords as well - anywhere from the first page results to the fourth page results.

    Thanks.

I know the MSN link system is not working properly... I don't know when it started, but I use a Firefox add-in called SEOQuake and it gets 'err' for the links now.

My guess is that their API has changed and the programs using that interface are not able to return information, hence 0 or err.

Must agree MSN link popularity hasn't been working for me for the last month. I use Webceo paid and MSN is no longer a option for checking link popularity.

I use www.marketleap.com to give an overview of inbound links off the three main search engines. MSN has been 'down' for quite some time. Don't worry MSN can see your links, if google and yahoo can

msn is a little bit quirky as a search engine (to say the least).

my best sites, ones with tons of original content and high quality relevant links are no where to be found in msn. my sites that i have not put as much effort into seem to do better at msn. go figure...

I tried looking for answers and found nothing? The traffic I use to receive from MSN is way down. They must be making changes.

I have the same problems with my sites and link backs to my site. MSN does not see any of them. I have tried a couple of websites that show your link backs, and some of them show them, some dont, and the numbers are always skattered in large amounts.

I guess MSN is going through some changes right now.

This reinforces the theory that content is very good for visitors and convertion rates, but not for Search Engines.

The search engines do not do quality control.
The worst site with 1000's pages of little/low quality, can achieve good results.
Of course if the content is no duplicate.

There are a few good SEO tools here, too. http://www.webuildpages.com/tools/default.htm

Why is it that when you do well with google, Yahoo! and MSN hits seem to fade away?

I wonder how one does well with all three, or if it's even possible.

Heh. I hear ya. A while back I was doing "okay" with Yahoo! and MSN. I decided to learn and focus on Google. After that decision, and success with Google, I'm not even ranking with the former concerning my targeted keyword phrases.

Although, I have seen sites that do great with Google and just "okay" with the other two.

    BTW, thanks for the link!
