Need Advice: How to choose keywords ?

Hello everyone,

I've decided to open this thread, because after a quick research on the forum's archive I couldn't find tips how to choose keywords for SEO by using the Keyword Planner(Adwords). There are 3 main indicators; avg. monthly searches, competition, CPC, so how to connect these indicators for better result ?

Many thanks and regards.

Keep your customer in mind when looking through the list of keywords.

Don't forget to actually type the keyword into Google yourself to see who's on page 1.

Thanks for reply.

I'm trying to find keywords which are corresponding with the posts or pages I publish, but the problem is how to choose less competitive and productive keywords. For example, which one would be better; 2 word keyword with 2500 searches, medium comp., cpc 50 $, or 3-4 word keyword, 15000 searches, high comp., cpc 8 $, or one word keyword, 50000 searches, low copm., cpc 25 $.
It's very confusing...

Regards.

What keywords you target depends on your SEO expertise and ambition level.

If you're a beginner then target the long tails first, if you're decent at SEO go for the big hitters, why not?

I am a beginner, so there is a no other way for me, then long tails first... :)

Long or Short tail this is a saturated tough business.. to get either as a new site you need to give the readers something different, I would go with an article that answers questions, "What Bonuses" "What Odds etc" then interlink them all together that way you will start to gain authority from the particular subject then build out.

Yes, you are right about the business, I understand... but the "cake" is big too...
Thanks for advice, sure I'll use it.

Build articles with titles that include the short tail term you're after, but also contain some of the long tail terms. This can be a good way to gradually build up to the higher value keywords as your site gains authority.

There are so many ways to approach it though, so many angles, so many ncihes within niches, I find it's good if you can get very good at one or two little niches.

I think that a few little niches would be great for me, at least for now.
Thanks for a good advice !

I agree with you all, for newbies they should go to long tail keywords with low competition, for choosing good keyword use Google Adword tool.
