Default Netherlands now cracking down in Internet gambling

The Dutch are now cracking down on Internet gambling, which is illegal in the Netherlands.

Banks and credit card companies are to be held criminally liable if they facilitate Dutch citizens in gambling on foreign internet sites under new justice ministry regulations, reports Wednesday's Volkskrant.

A list of banned websites is to be circulated this spring, the paper says.

Internet gambling is illegal in the Netherlands but according to the state-owned monopoly holder Holland Casino, some 400,000 people gamble online. The justice ministry says some 30 foreign firms are targeting Dutch users.

Banks responded by saying they will not follow up on this until there is a court decision, they also argued this is in conflict with EU regulation... so the story continues.
