Default New football statistics site: showmethegoals.com

    Hi Everyone,
I've recently set up a new website called www.showmethegoals.com. The idea is to allow punters to easily locate fixtures of interest with respect to goals markets across the popular domestic European leagues. New fixtures are uploaded twice a week, Tuesdays for mid week games and Fridays for weekend games.

I'm currently looking for feedback to take the site forward and improve it's service. You'll have to forgive the sites look and feel, web design is not my strong point I'm afraid, however, hopefully the site is functional and easy to use!

Anyway all feedback gratefully received, thanks for looking!

    Cheers,
    Chris.

For me, the home page doesn't make it clear what I'm getting. I had to get down to 'market' on the FAQ ...where I get to understand (I think) that you're focusing on stats that will indicate high(er) scoring matches.. Or is that just where you're starting out and eventually it'll approach all matches/all types of bets from a statistical viewpoint?

Of course that could just be me not getting it....but I think I'm a fairly typical punter. It'll be worth thinking about how to spell out your 'message' better.

I think you know the home page could do with an image or two and a bit of colour. No need to overdo it -- it's kind of refreshing to just see some basic easily readable text (as long as it tells me what the page is about exactly)

The page title and description read the same (on home page at least). Make them different.

Hi Chaumi, thanks for the feedback that's really helpful!

Yep the basic idea of the site is to identify high scoring (and low scoring) games.

I'll certainly look to change the FAQ to make it easier to get to the purpose of the site (and the home page for that matter), I was actually thinking about some youtube videos explaining how I use the site to give people a better picture.

I might add more bet types in the future but for now I think I need to concentrate on other areas.

I'll look to smarten up the home page over the next few weeks, it's actually one of the site areas I struggle with. There's a pretty well defined purpose (in my head anyway!) for all the other pages but I haven't really settled on what the home page should be or show.

Anyway, thanks once again for the feed back, really appreciate it!

    Cheers,
    Chris.

the page itself and I am talking about the homepage is too clean. there is no logo no picture no graphs nothing. For me it is not clear what you offer. You need to give your visitor a reason to stay on your page and the layout itself is a very important thing beside of the content of course. creat a logo a brand and bring more structure in the site.

Ok so now we're clear the site is definitely about match score related bets, I think your next step is to brainstorm what searchers would be looking for on arriving at/searching for the site.

I guess if you're feeding in from a Facebook page/Twitter they'll already have a good idea what they're getting, but think about what terms a search engine searcher might be looking for where showmethegoals will deliver what they want. eg 'match score bets' 'bet on total goals'

If you identify those terms you'll have something to work with to structure the page/site to deliver on the promise.

Show your visitor why score related bets offer value/great betting opportunities

Nice idea BTW to focus on a type of bet(s). If you're good at it you could get a loyal following. Plus a narrow(ish) focus gives good opportunity to position as a real expert.

I pay attention to the design of websites I visit and honestly, I wouldn't spend much time on your site, even though it may have good content. It's too simple for me. Try adding a slider and some photos to your articles. The logo is also too simple for me to remember it. Add a bit o colour to your site and it will be much better in my opinion. I also suggest adding more content, because the site looks empty at the moment. Good luck!

Thanks again chaumi, my next steps are going to be around the home page, branding (creating a logo) and the FAQ. As you say, I need to work on selling what the site promises on the home page (and FAQ) so then when people land there they aren't immediately put off or confused. I think that alone will make the biggest difference to the site right now.

I'll put another post up in this forum once I've made some progress to see what people think.

Thanks wettFORM, appreciate the feedback! The home page is definitely my next port of call, better info, better laid out and a better logo...

Thanks COR, your sentiments match others on this forum which only serves to validate them! I'm working on the home page next.

    Thanks once again,
    Chris.

Same as above, find it a little easy to go through. It's like a doctor owns it the stats side I like though. Love stats.

are all your stats manual input?

"Like a doctor owns it"....like it, made me laugh . Yep need to work on more content and improve the look and feel. Am thinking about re-implementing in bootstrap/wordpress or Joomla to improve the look and feel, that's a big job for me though as never used any of those frameworks and I am but a man (with a full time job and a family)!

Not sure what you mean by manual input, but stats are collated on my local machine and then uploaded to the site. The process is batched so doesn't take much time really.

Liking sbat.com (did you do this all yourself?) it's certainly something I'd aspire to in terms of look and feel. Am going to join so I can put tips on. Would you mind me using my .com name as my user name when signing up, no problems if not though.

    Thanks for taking a look!
    Cheers,
    Chris.

Using CMS like Wordpress or Joomla is definitely a good way to make a nice looking site easy and fast. They offer some great options and if you have any knowledge yourself (and seeing as you already have a site up and running like that I guess you do) you can do amazing things with them.

Think I'm leaning towards bootstrap at the moment, can't really see an easy way to integrate my fixtures table in either Joomla or Wordpress and Bootstrap has data table plugin. Am also passing URL parameters between pages and have a fair bit of custom PHP which I've read can cause issues in Joomla and Wordpress. More research required before I make the move the though!

I like the concept but as more informed people than me have said the homepage doesn't give much of an idea of what you offer.

The stats page (pie-charts etc) look good, I think you need to give people a better idea of these earlier on. 3 clicks to get there seems too far, would it work to put say the top game of the week/weekend on the front page with some sample parameters - say BTTS? Good luck anyway.

Your site has potential for sure, but there is so much competition in the football stats department. All the best.

Yep I really need to work on getting across what the benefits of the site are and how to use it.

The basic idea is to use the fixture data page to sort all the fixtures (for a typical full weekend programme that's about 200 fixtures) so that fixtures of interest appear at the top of the table. Typically I order the fixture data by the GSGCT column and then, if i'm looking for BTTS Yes bets for instance, the BYPcT column. This quickly gives me all the fixtures where both teams have been scoring and conceding and also where both teams previous games have seen a high percentage of BTTS Yes results. Then it's about using the stats pages (by clicking the tables fixture link) to examine the recent form for both teams in more detail and gauge whether or not to place a bet.

Good idea about placing some fixtures on the home page though, I'll definitely think about that, as well as adding some "How to use the site" videos and a diagram\pictorial of what I've just described above.

Anyway, thanks for taking a look, appreciate it!

    Cheers,
    Chris.
