Default No Cigs for 5 weeks thanks to Vape

Today marks 5 weeks since I gave cigarettes the flick. Previous to that, I'd been smoking for 45 years.

I'd tried to give up a few times, but always went back. I'd tried patches, gums, sprays, you name it.

The only success I've had is Vaping. Started with 16mg of nicotine in the juice. Now, I'm down to 4mg. I don't intend to keep vaping. Instead, I've been lower my nicotine levels each week, which I've been coping well with.

Here is Australia vape juice with nicotine is banned. Hence, you have to either import the nicotine in yourself (always a hit/miss if customs let it through or not). Otherwise, you find a Vape shop who (illegally) adds nicotine to their juice. I did that later.

Problem is now, come July 1'st 2020, it will be illegal to import nicotine.

I've got enough Juice to see me through, least till I give it the flick.

However, and here is how meddling (clueless) Governments f#ck things up for people. Those smokers who have switched Vaping to quit the cigs, where Vaping was the only thing which worked, may now be forced back into taking up smoking again, because, they can't obtain nicotine for their vape-juice.

Vape probably still hold some risks, but cigarettes are far far riskier. However cigs give the AU government a sh#t load of tax. EG - 1 pkt of 25 cigs costs AU$35, tax on the 1 pkt = $17.50. A pkt a day = $122.50 tax per week, per smoker.

Congrats on giving up the ciggies Dave!
When I heard that they were banning the vape nicotine the first thing I thought was that it was for tax, not because they are bad for you as they say is the reason, because ciggies are way worse.

Have you tried alternating between nicotine and nicotine free? Maybe you'll be able to trick your brain into thinking it has nicotine in it. Worth a shot right?

Have you tried reading Allen Carr's book? Worked for me and everyone I recommended it to.

Well done Dave, keep it up. I've managed to stop smelling like an ashtray for ten years now, went cold turkey after numerous attempts with all the gimmicks that failed to help me.

TBH, I've still got enough nicotine-juice to see me thru till I stop vaping (probably another 3 - 4 weeks should do it). The cravings have all but subsided. Just the occasional twitch. To combat that a glass of water helps those small cravings, which, usually vanish in 30 sec or less.

What I find disturbing is the Federal Government's decision.

Well done Dave, smoked for 15 years before giving it up cold turkey style. Main driver from me was having kids, although I wanted to do it for the health benefits too.

Had to go through a few attempts, first getting to a point where I'd only smoke at the pub and socially, before finally stopping completely. The craving has gone now and the only time it crosses my mind is when I get downwind of someone smoking which triggers some old thoughts!!

    Congrats!

You can still switch to patches or nicotine chewing gums to get the nicotine. But I'd just reduce the dose every couple of days and you should soon be fine!

    Hi Dave,

Congrats! I've been vaping for more than 4 years now. Been smoking 40+ cigs per day. Now I'm on nicotine vape of 12mg. Here in my country you can purchase the vape juice with nicotine with no problems.
The only thing is that I did try to lower the amount of nicotine, but it seems that I cannot copy with that, and I'm still on 12mg.
It's a shame that in Australia people who gave up on cigs will probably be forced back into taking up smoking again, because of the problem with nicotine in vape juice.
All in all, I want to congratulate to you again, as I know very well how hard it is to quit smoking!

A week or so ago was out shopping and this person was smoking. That smell travelled a good 50metres in open air and it stunk. I never knew how gross cigs smelt until I stopped. TBH that smell almost made me puke.

If I'm having a stress day from hell, the 4mg just doesn't seem to feed to beast, enough. So I'll throw a squirt of the higher octane in. Though, a few decent puffs on that and my head is spinning, and the urge is killed. Then it's back to the 4mg, again.

With the covid-19, I'm not out as much, hence I'm not around anyone who smokes, which has made giving up so much easier.

Yes, the smell is terrible! But I didn't realize that while I was a smoker. Now I definitely can't stand it!
Also, I will have to try to lower the doze as soon as I can, so hopefully one day I can quit vaping as well!

    Disturbed - 100%
    Surprised - Not at all.

My guess is that they will regulate it just like ciggies and it will have a massive tax, or it will be legal only in ACT just like porn and fireworks.

I think it must depend on the brand being smoked, but sometimes the smell of someone smoking actually smells nice to me still even after all these years - time to move away rapidly from the smoker in question when that happens!
