OLD SEO Advice regurgitated Do's and Don'ts What works What Does not?
Over and Over I keep seeing the Same repeated SEO Advice and what you should and Shouldn't do, I thought it would be a good idea for some input and difference of opinion on what still works and what does not? I feel some of the older techniques may work for older sites.. however more recent sites need to approach differently?
I'm going to start first with my pet hate PageRank "It is now worthless IMO" usually quoted by Link sellers on thin content sits that have PR5 rankings and a penalty, This is then refreshed with a new basic WordPress site and links sold for crazy prices.
DO Social share,,, Why? I don't social share for traffic or the "Social Signals".. I share for backlinks, using the right hastags has resulted in many backlinks from high DA and PA sites with related content.
Comment blogging,,,, Worthless and a one way walk to the polar regions to visit Google's favorite creatures..
What do you guys find works in 2015? and what are your Do not's?

Social share is good if it is done naturally - then users will see your site in search as "recommended by friend" in personalized search results.

Do: Develop high quality content that is unique.
Do: Be authoritative in your niche.
Do: Add content regularly.
Do: Develop natural inbound links. (It's hard I know, with no low hanging fruit).
Don't: submit to directories, article sites, blog posts on unrelated topic sites, exchange links with anyone. (I would have said "general directories" last year. But now I think very few directories would help).
Don't: Use automated software.
Maybe Do: Purchase older established websites who's owners do not want to continue to develop. you would have to make sure they are cost effective for you. Also, you would want to make sure that they have not been abused (unnatural links, penalties etc).

Don't: Read SEO blogs. They exist for the sole purpose to rank well for SEO-related queries.
Don't: Trust PageRank. It's dead.
Don't: Build your site for Google.
Don't: Go through great lengths to try to find the new magical thing that gets you ranked better.
Do: Build user experience.
Do: Develop customer persona(s).
Do: Treat your website as a business. Try to build it as such.
Do: Basic on-page SEO right. The basic rules should be common knowledge by now.
Do: Make sure nothing's stopping you from ranking well.
