Default One of My BIGGEST gripes`

Okay I cannot claim to have content stolen, but my MAJOR issues is when I host a private freeroll for my members and then find that the password has been "snatched" and I have about 100 strangers in my game, it sickens me to see that there are websites out there whose whole purpose is to steal passwords for their members and then to blatently promote their own affiliate links, I am not too sure how the poker rooms feel about this as at the end of the day they are still getting the players. my last freeroll was hijacked in such a way, I had it limited to 150 players and it turned out a few of my own players couldnt get in as it had maxxed out. We had delivered the password 48 hours prior to request as to avoid this happening again. The strangest thing is that this has only happened 3 times to ourselves and it has always been the same network.

I think that poker rooms should have this written into its smallprint for affiliates and that all their earnings should be seized if caught doing these dispicable acts of thievery

Sadly it seems to happen to all us forum owners and will continue to do so.

I have a coupon system in place for my games at Pimp-Your-Poker and in the 800+ freerolls we have staged since November 1st there has not been a single imposter.

Works great if the site you use can implement a coupon.

Yeah i certainly have had the same issues with freeroll games. Not much you can do unless the poker room is willing to do something about it.

The good thing it brings more traffic to your site, and i have had players sign up to other sites.

The bad thing is if the player is not tracked to you then well you lose on that revenue...

I think the best thing is share here these password thieves. Eventually they only lose in the end.

Another good idea is to do buy ins, small ones. It does de track these vultures.

Chalkie nice signature mate. I had one a while back... but no luck for me. I may have one program sponsor as they said they would.. but its been 5 weeks and still waiting..

Good luck with that mate.. I would love to meet all you guys..

Canada is friendly with Brits!! LOL

Also if by chance this program follows through.. i have 2 programmers in Amsterdam, who were going to have a social Poker night!!!! In a huge Gym!!

For a bunch of affiliates... should be a blast!!!

However still waiting.. and its almost getting to late!!

    I am praying!!

The program can _usually_ set it up so that only people who come through your tag can enter.. you could also put that as a clause on your site.. Only players who enter the contest through this site, www.site-name.com, are eligible for a prize.

That way if they scrape your copy and post it on their site, your url will be there too.. Just a thought if the program can't help you with that.

Another option although again hassle is to pm password just 10mins before game that way the time is limited for people to be able to share it.

You could also if you have a chat room on site give the password out there.

This is a really good system. You get the forum filled with peeps waiting for the pw which will generally generate some posts and/or chat. You can also stop approving "new" members for several hours prior to the start, this stops the freeroll whores from getting in at the last minute. Additionally, only giving the pw to members who have a minimum number of posts will help as well.

Yup all good methods Terry. Thanks for reminding me!!

Another good one i try to do, is just get the room to only allow players tagged to me to get in. Some do it, some don't.

    Paul,

That was the pay no rake freeroll, correct?

I was shocked we didn't get enough players for it... apparently no one wants free money!! WildCats forum has a lot of members too, I just don't know why that happened... too many American or European members? Too late/early for them? I was booked and looking forward to it. Hopefully, you'll do it again and we'll fill it up.

I think password protected tournaments are always going to get freerollers coming into them. Doesn't matter how you try to protect the password, it only takes one guy passing it onto his mates for it to get around....

At Playersonly we have two solutions for this:

    1. We only register specific players. Usually this relates to those that have signed up under you, but it need not be the case every time, as a forum can invite long time members even if they are not tracked to them.

    2. We offer "tickets" to specific members, and onyl players with these tickets can register for the tournament.

Either way removes the problme with freerollers which allows you to maximise the actual tournament for your members.

If you get insufficient players this way - perhaps it is best to consider joining up with 1-2 others to get a few more numbers.

It was, and it made me look like a complete chimp!

Well, we European mods on there were trying to get a few UK/European friendly times as the brits and co were moaning about the times. Typical, you give them what they want and they turn their backs on it.

Well, i have not given up on it and will try to resurect it when i am over the shock! I will work so haard on it then, that it will be oversubscribed.

Here are a few ways you can try:

See if the poker room you are working with will accept an allowed list for those players account info (email or screen name) you send to them a day or two prior to the game then have your members post or PM info for you to put together.

I have a group of players who consistantly play my buy in games and support the forum by using our links to sign up to a new site or those who deposit with our links, I call them VIP members, these are players that are tried and true members and onloy they get the password.

I also run added buys and only those who play the buys get the password either emailed or PM'd to them the day prior to the game.

And... When I do have the dreaded "open forum freeroll" that anyone can join as long as they are a member, I post the password an hour or two prior to the game. The VIP's get the password about a 5 days in advance. (Hence another perk to being a VIP).

We all know many times a room may set the minimum player threshold high and if we only go with those that are under us, it is hard to get the minimum.

Just another reason why I abhore freerolls.

    Hope this helps.
