OPR: If Trump Plaza closes, what happens to Betfair in NJ?

Great column by Chris Grove at onlinepokerreport.com. Trump Plaza recently delivered layoff notices to all its employees, and the casino is expected to close on Sept. 16, barring some late bailout/purchase.

Under online gambling regulations in the Garden State, Betfair need a brick and mortar dancing partner in order to operate. Since it's aligned with Trump Plaza, it's license may be in jeopardy.

What I have heard regarding the sales/closing of AC Casinos is as follows. These have not been confirmed yet but in talking to a local in AC this is what he has heard.

Showboat closing but Ceasers plans to buy the Revel and rename it "HorseShoe". The Showboat is then to be become the Hard Rock and the same group that wanted to buy the AC Club are buying it. Trump Plaza may just be closing but there are rumors there is a buyer very interested in the property but not for a casino. Wants to make luxury condos.

Again, this is just by word of mouth form locals down there, but Ceasers buying Revel makes sense.

Given the state of play in NJ at the moment I'm pretty sure that Betfair will be given a stay while this issue is resolved. Perhaps they'll lose their license completely, but I think more likely they'll be given time to get their affairs back to the point of compliance.
