Opt-in emails

Hey guys I am just wondering if any of you guys no anything about optin email addresses? I am planning on starting a website that has numerous casino and poker links.The thing is that I want to use opt in email marketing to market this site.how do you know whether the opt in lists are authentic and legal to use?I found a website that sells opt in email addresses.I want you guys to check it out for me to tell me whether the addresses are legal to use.the link is http://www.1-bulk-email-mailing-address-list.com/ Iwould like everyone to do a little research on this site for me to tell me whether this site is legit.The reason why I am asking this favour is that I do not want to be accussed of spamming and have my site shut down or have my ISP account cancelled

There is no way under the sun that a GOOD optin list will be sold at those prices. If they were asking maybe 10 times more than that well then maybe it would have some merit. More to the point, where would they obtain a volume of that magnitude?

If it looks easy, it was got easy and isn't worth the trouble. Heck, if it was that easy, we would all simply buy lists and forget the hardships that come with SEO.

Invest your money into links. Many many links. Also have maybe 5 or 6 sites. Have different keyword and density strategies for each. Keep them independant of each other. Just get links. We have people here who will do the link swops for you at $1-50 to $2-50 per link with certain guarantees. Buying a 1000 link swops is worth way way more than buying a really suspect e-mail list.

I've also heard of an opt-in email program called "SafeList." Has anyone used it or know about it?

(I agree, tho, about the links - especially with other gambling topic sites).

Generally speaking, buying email lists from anyone is unethical as those players have NOT opted in for YOU to mail them anything. This also makes them much higher SPAM risks, which is a dangerous game to play.

I have email accounts that have NEVER been used, and yet they show up on player's lists and safe lists.

How safe could that "safe list" be?

I've actually seen email harvester's running through my websites... I wouldn't trust ANY email list. If it is a good list, it is essentially priceless in this industry.

I 100% agree with the sentiment that even if a list is double opt-in, they didn't give you permission to send them email... There may have been something buried in the TOS saying they could sell my address, but that doesn't stop me from complaining when I receive spam.

When I stated earlier about having email accounts on "safe lists" I also meant that they have NEVER been published, and yet they end up on lists.

I do occassionally sit down and let the appropriate people hear about how this makes me feel....especially since I pay for bandwidth for all incoming mail.

Everyone thinks spam is so free.

A host somewhere ALWAYS pays.....

Matt, you may want to consider hiding the emails with a script....

Oh, I never have emails visible except for my "contact" email... My spam filter is pretty good so I dont worry. It's just so easy to write a program which harvests email addresses by spidering the web for words fitting some given format.

Thank you all for your input. I sorta felt the same, but was being "marketing too" that Safelists are people that expect the email. It did sound too good to be true. Besides, it seemed like a pain to set up. SEO ](*,) is bad enough!

Matt, do you have ways to hide the emails on a page using asp?

Spam filters are ok, and can be necessary in certain situations, but no amount of filtering can be done outside of a hosts' switch.

What that means is, no matter how good your filter is, the spam is still paid for!!

replace "name" and "yoursite.com", also change "General question" if you want another subject

I do think there has been some speculation that "some" spambots have figured that one out.

Every little bit helps though and not using anything is just becoming less of an option.

I have been using one located here

but there has been speculation this one may have been handled as well.

I must say that the sites I use this on the accounts on those sites get very little if any spam.

I am always open to more ideas.

I did not mean to put your method down in any way, and am quite intrigued by it as it is more simple than my method. The method I use is very simple, but does require code in 2 places on any page that will have the email.

Are you using this anywhere with an email that has never been exposed....on a site for over a year (and even better if over 2) and can say that it is extremely effective? (I can say that about the method I am using)

The more options and choices we can offer as suggestions the more informed our members and visitors will be.

PS: You should also note, that no matter what you do, if an email address is on a page for a visitor, that email address CAN and most probably WILL end up on some lists....but by using some of these methods, the process of extracting the email account from the page, has become a bit more involved than a robot just simply scanning the pages looking for any@any.any

Only used it on a new e-mail for about 6 months, the result so far is good. I also use it on 3 e-mails at my GF's site and she has very little spam. As you say Rick, if they visit the page they will get hold of it, but I belive this does reduse the harvesting.
