Home page link trades should ALWAYS be themed IMHO.

Not really. I want sites that have content, not just one page of adds. I'm looking for quality plus PR. I want well established sites, with as many indexed pages as possible. High back links is good.
I also prefer trades with sites that have as little out bound links as possible on the page where my link will appear.

While the first site is worth it, the last two of those sites go directly to CTropez & DelRio, with his aff tag attached.
