Is PR Really Dead? (farewell little green bar)

Since almost every week we get people to come in talking about the latest greatest SEO Strategy to get their site ranking and raising their pr, I thought it might be a good thing to have a single thread discussing this as it would give us the opportunity to have a thread to refer people to so they might understand the little green bar is NOT what it used to be.

Let's try not to let the discussion delve too deeply into current strategies that do work, as they might be better discussed in other threads.

The fact that we have been talking about the demise of the toolbar here at the GPWA for a couple of years does not surprise anyone that has been around a while.

And most likely, even though we can point at facts as well as statements coming direct from Google, my guess is that it will not stop many of those pushing their own seo agendas as well as those truly misinformed folks believing that the little green bar is alive.

Worse yet are the folks that still think that you should buy links based upon how much green the bar shows.

Maybe just maybe we can inform a few of them here.

PR is demoted to being one of 200+ ranking signals and it will continue to get updated in the background, but there won't be any more public updates.

PR5 means the site had PR5 on 5/6 Dec 2013. And you'll benefit from having a link from that site.

there are still one page landers that have backlinks stuffed in the footer of non relevant page 6 and higher websites.

I have never had a PR, but rank for some very tough keywords, And talk about PR is one of my pet hates, leave it to the Link selling scammers and un informed. people still talk about blog posting, link buidling etc.. it's time to move on people or not.. I will happily keep taking your rankings while you practice old school methods..

I would like to forget about the little green bar, but the seo wannabe's bring it up almost daily.

Yes, PR is dead. If there is someone who calls himself an SEO expert and starts about PR you have to get rid of him as fast as possible.

Two years ago I always tried to get a good page rank and my site started at PR3 and I was very happy about it. Now I have sites without any PR because they don´t update it anymore and the site ranks much better than the old one with a higher PR. IMO the page rank is no longer relevant these times.

Yes PR is dead, I got an offer from someone for a link on a PR4 site. On further investigation it had no links pointing to it anymore and had literally nothing on other metrics. PR is just old and out of date.

I love when someone says about having a good PR and you look and there is no links and no updates to the website in years. Cracks me up.
