PHP Question

Hi everyone,

I am relatively new using PHP and have a general question. I think I need to use PHP because I want to use if and else statements. I got the code to do what I want but wondering if there is a way to "tag" particular items so I can do a search and only return certain things which meet the criteria. I think wordpress would be the easiest to this but they dont support php right?

That's fundamental to any programming language. Not PHP. And the server side code for Wordpress is indeed PHP.
What are you trying to do exactly when you say 'tag'. Are you trying to create some sort of search functionality?

oh wow - maybe im in way over my head. yes i want to create a search. really what i want to do is create a website for my car dealership and want to be able to allow people to browse the inventory by make, price, year down payment ect. I almost envision it like a blog with "tags" and then be able to sort by those tags. for ex. have a 2008 honda for 12,000. I would like to enter that info and be able to return it if people want to see just hondas or cars under 12,000. make sense?

I would say the best thing you can do is buy an off the shelf solution for your products (cars in your case). You would probably be looking for a decent shopping card software with search capabilities. Then you could simply add your descriptions and images. It would also be easier for you to take inventory off the list as well.

You can do it via tag search, there are plugins for this on wordpress

It would all depend on how you word your tags

You would have to create multiple tags like this

Honda, 12000, Honda 12000

This is one such plugin, never used it so not sure it would fit ideally but there are others including drop down menus etc

Also if you want to use php in posts you can use the plugin exec-php

Do you have a sample or vision of how you want your site to sort the inventory? I agree with WagerX. There's a few automobile scripts that would help you jump-start what you're doing. If you want to do it yourself, depending on the size of the inventory, you would need to incorporate MySQL to organize your data.

Well I don't know about you, but if I visit his site to buy a Honda I do NOT want to have to jump start it....

lol
