Default Placing bets on behalf of USA residents, illegal or not?

I am curious, i was reading through another forum the other day, SBR and was reading about various nightmare stories about slow payments, bets cancelled, limits set and so forth.

Anyway on one forum someone bemoaned the fact that they could not bet on betfair which eliminates most of these issues, i assume because it is illegal and betfair wont accept bets from US residents.

So the question is if someone gave money to a EU resident to place a bet on their behalf, is this illegal and would the person placing the bet on behalf of the US resident face prosecution.

I would think you would be acting as the US Resident's bookie...

I think you should talk to an attorney that has a background in gaming law, but my first guess is that would not be cool with US Law.

Thanks for the response though i should point out i have no interest in doing it whatsover, i am just curious, to be honest if i ever entered in to anything like that would do it via the Asian markets where money gambled is far greater.

It just spiked my curiousity becuase of the thread i read over at SBR that was all.

But you probably correct in your answer and i suppose a lawyer would know best.
