Default Poker still the most search for term on Lycos

Buzzy knows that poker is a popular term in search engines. Whether people are looking for online rooms or a home game, strategy tips or the latest news on celebrity players, people use search engines to find them.

Lycos recently announced that poker was the most-searched for term on its search engine, but Buzzy has just one question ... is anyone actually using Lycos?

There must be at least 20 users Worldwide so if you can get to first place out of 24 million results then you should manage about 3 visitors a year!

Well, I just took a quick look at google analytics information for Casino City over the past month (the period July 18, 2007 to August 17,2007), and have this to report:

    1. For every visit from organic search results we received from lycos we received 3,215.4745763 visits from google.
    2. Google organic search results was the top generator of visitors to our site whereas lycos occupied position 93 (just below oklahoma.cox.net at position 92).
    3. The average pages/visit was 27.6% higher for lycos than google. Who knows if that is just a statistical aberation with the relatively small lycos sample size, or if lycos visitors just like to stay in the same place a little longer (after all, they're still using lycos), of if when they find a good site from lycos they stay a little longer because that is more unusual on lycos than on google.
    4. The average time a lycos visitor stays on our site is 13.2% shorter than the average time a google visitor stays on our site. I guess google visitors have a longer attention span. When you combine that with the previous statistic, google visitors spend 47% more time on each page viewed. Talk about relative attention deficit for the lycos users.
    5. Relatively speaking, 17.2% fewer visitors from lycos returned to that search engine after viewing just one page on our site than was the case for google visitors. Seems lycos visitors are a little more reluctant to leave right away. Guess they feel a greater need to catch there breath before going back.

I hope you had as much fun reading this as I had putting it together.

Default Poker once again Lycos' top search term in 2007

Second year in a row that poker wins that distinction.
