Default PokerStars article by Howard Stutz

I just read the article that was re-posted by Howard Stutz titled "After deal PokerStars returns $100 million to gamblers" dated the 16th in the news section.
He started his article with the words "Disgraced online gambling company PokerStars returned more than $100 million to U.S. gamblers". How is the US Black Friday indictment a disgrace on PokerStars?

I fail to see how the actions of PokerStars in honouring the US gamblers and paying out when they had the chance to walk away using the indictment as a valid reason to withhold funds is anything close to being a disgrace.

Is it a poor choice of words by Howard Stutz, or a complete misconception of the events created by the US In-Justice Department?

One thing to remember is that Stutz writes for the Gaming Wire, and is mostly concerned with the brick-and-mortar gaming industry. Based on how quickly Steve Wynn and the Nevada legislators bolted from any association with PokerStars, it could easily be seen how - for those audiences - PokerStars is a "disgraced online gambling company."

And most people in the U.S. would likely agree. If you are accused of breaking some pretty big federal laws, like money laundering and bank fraud, you are likely to be considered "disgraced."

Yeah calling Stars a Disgrace is idiotic IMO - Full Tilt Poker, UB/AP I would agree with. But PokerStars has paid everyone.

Hey DavidL, could you shoot me a link to the article please? If he wants to throw around the word disgraceful, he needs to see look at how the DOJ took the domain names, its probably both a poor choice of words and a complete misconception of the events - either those or grand standing.

Thanks for the feedback Todd and I agree with you regarding how this looks on paper, but to those in the industry or those commenting on the industry need to dig a little deeper to see what really went on. From a business prospective the union between PokerStars and Steve Wynn was sound and a move that really did benefit both, but dropping the deal and distancing himself from PokerStars was pure survival instinct.

The online Poker side to the US market has always been contentious and has always been at logger heads with the US Treasury Department is nothing new, the fact that they have now taken this to a whole new level with accusations designed at maximum damage in the knowledge that half of what they said won't stick, is just a step too far and if we are honest purely financially orientated. How much do they stand to gain from PokerStars and others?? worth making a play for don't you think?

Don't get me wrong, PokerStars and others have been playing under the radar for long enough and the US do need to regulate online Poker, but this isn't the way and the re-payment deal by PokerStars proves that all the US Justice Department have done is eliminate a serious Poker site making way for the less open and honest sites to step up. Only one real loser here, the US online Poker player.

Too bad the US Governement refuses to admit this to the general public.

That will likely happen around the same time that the members of Congress actually start passing legislation that help the American People and not themselves.
