Default Are press releases any good for SEO still?

    Hi Guys

We have pushed a fair few press releases in the past, and seen some good results. However, I am just wondering, are they as effective as they used to be?

Also, do any of you know of any UK press release sites, that would be willing to accept gaming related content. I tried UK Pre Web recently, yet I was told they couldn't post it, as their servers are based in Washington, US, where gaming is not permitted, so they had to refund me.

Any help is as always, very much appreciated

It depends on which site it appears on and how legitimate the press release is. the ones where they auto-submit to many at once...did nothing for us....if anything, seemed to penalize us a little.

I've got a question as well. Does DMOZ and/or Yahoo Directories still accept online casino guide directories ? My initial guess is no, as I only saw a short list.

they are the best when they appear on bbc.co.uk

all jokes aside maybe they are better than nothing but the downside is press releases are not as strong as they used to be and are not the greatest when multiples have duplicate content on many sites.

There's still some value as part of a larger link building campaign. I use 24-7, but have been looking at prfire.co.uk recently for UK ones - will probably give them a go later this month.

Press Releases are still a good practice in order to get strong back links to your website, but make sure the article is actually news-worthy, instead of a sales pitch. If you are looking to target the UK market, the best PR agencies are Source Wire, part of DWPub, PR Fire and Journalism.co.uk. If you can afford it, then PRNewswire is also well worth it.

You may find this forum post a couple of years ago of interest : https://www.gpwa.org/forum/list-free...es-181702.html

Not sure if all of the sites still provide a PR service but might be worth cheking them out for some free distribution.

with regard to new google do's and don'ts it IMO it is better not to have your site url in spun content.

IMO anything SEO related that was written more than 4 months ago is obsolete and in a lot of cases taking SEO advice written more than a year ago can really hurt your site if you use that advice now.

Google has changed, a lot, in just the last six months.

I wasn't giving any advice, just pointing the way to a list of free Press Release providers. Nothing wrong in that.

In my own opinion there's also nothing wrong in submitting articles to these sites although as GCG states spun articles are probably not going to gain you much.

    I wasn't talking about you.

I was just saying that taking SEO advice that was written 3 or 4 years ago can hurt your site.
What was "good SEO" 3 years ago can kill a site now.. that was all I meant.. I was not directing the comment towards anyone specific.

This is completely depend on the quality of your content and also quality of that website where you are going to submit. Press Releases still works.

With latest changes in Google algorithm, press release (especially free ones) do not add much value in your SEO rankings. Its better to generate content that really benefits user and syndicate that through niche press sites

I was just about to start a thread about this topic. I haven't posted in a while. The reason is cause I got an email promoting a 'link building scheme' which has apparently weathered both recent google updates. I am not interested in using the product but it got me thinking because they give some info about what they do; submit to 2 quality press release sites, and submit to decent articles directories, get links on high PR blogs and using link brokers. I was wondering if this would work in our industry....... cause getting links on high PR blogs must be v difficult IMO.

Any way has any was link brokers with any success and, any more thoughts about good press release sites.

Also what counts as newsworthy for these kinds of sites, I don't really know!!

Link brokers will almost always say it's better to go through them then going direct.

Like has been said above, using outdated info could hurt....and the more importance they place on the little green bar.....

IMO press releases still work though you have to make it as unique and informative as possible. As some SEOs would suggest that anchor text is dying it will be worth your while to have a diverse backling profile and make sure that your site is also mentioned in other sites such as the press sites.

Always! Just make sure your content is unique and PR site's pagerank is higher than yours.
