Question about linking
Hi,
This is probably a really simple question, but I thought I'd better check.
On my links page I want to have all the links so they open in a new window. Is this generally considered good practice or will most webmasters want the link to open in the same window? Also, if I link with a site using linksmanager, will it still automatically see the link if it opens in a new window?
Cheers,
joe

Hi Joe,
There is nothing wrong with opening links in a new window. I have every external link opening in a new window. If you use Linksmanager, every link will automatically open in a new window.
If a webmaster wants you to open his link in the same window, tell him/her to get screwed. You want to hang on to your valuable traffic for as long as you can.

I can never understand why w/ms overwrite their own site with someone elses. The only time I think it is worthwhile is if you don't want the surfer to come back - if it's a doorway site for example.
Just as an alternative suggestion, if you use a target such as target=new, then IE will create a window called "new" and will load you called pages into that. It will overwrite the previous page rather than your invoking page.
