Default Ranking number one with a single page site and minimal words

I sat in a really interesting session at LAC that focused on Parallax sites which I had never heard of before.... But basically they are animated infographics but what is really interesting is the power of them.... if you get it right..... For example the key word "Fracking" is a big keyword at the moment in the UK BUT the site that ranks number one is a single page site with no more than 500 words on it www.dangersoffracking.com

Check it out and then have a think how you could create a very cool parallax site for your target market/keyword

It's a clever page, not surprised it's got the apparent share figures it has...and I imagine it's those that are giving it its authority. Only been registered a couple of years.

Technically there's no way I could build a page like that (which I'm thinking might be playing a big part in its allure)...but from a content perspective yes there could be some ways to work it.

Thanks for posting...one to think about definitely.

Interesting site. I would think it is all the other sites linking to it giving it the rankings. From a technical standpoint I dont think that would be hard to imitate but again it has to be the sites linking in giving it such authority. Since it is almost like a petition website I bet there is 1000's of sites linking in. I didnt look but that would be my guess.

That type of design might be cool to show a player from the very start the process of signing up at a casino. Start by clicking an affiliate website all the way to making a deposit and downloading the casino. Might be cool to do......

Its def about the links in - dave Naylor who was talking about it was basically saying this is the next level of info graphics and wanted to illustrate the power a site like this can have. He said he investigated on the costs to get one done and was being quoted in the region of 10-13k! but then found a really good cartoonist/illustrator on a free lance site who did the graphics whilst his team did the story boarding and programming... I think the hard part is the actual story boarding which needs to be thought through in detail
Be interesting to do one of these around for example the history of poker, or maybe the evolution of the slot

Very interesting, and I think a great idea - the history of poker, perhaps rules of poker too? Both lend themselves well to that format.

Personally, the "dangers of fracking" is a GREAT EMD.

Also, with the conspiricy therorists, my guess is there are plenty of searches since people that discover what fracking is want to now know what the dangers are.

Don't forget that niches like that, and pages or sites that get a lot of media attention, let alone a handful of some of the largest media outlets in the world linking to them changes the dynamic of what any site or page can rank with.

Throw that in with a bunch of seo types talking about and linking to them and voila, higher ranking.

My big issue with that page....it took forever to load and I would NEVER stay at a site or page that takes that long. In fact I had to reduce the page to 50% before I could even see much and after about 2 minutes it is still waiting on 42 items to download, so for me it's a total fail and I can't even see the whole thing.

It has a PR 5 - Pagerank is a score of 0-10 to score the quality of the in bound links.

Toolbar PR is NOT a quality score.

PR is just a measurement of inbound links in regards to quality of the links - it has no reflection what so ever on the website or the quality of the information then again it has no reflection on how that link was obtained.

You should read up more on the history of Toolbar PR, and also how little value it has today.

Of course all the seowannabe's do NOT want you to know that since their link schemes can be used to manipulate it.

That is a very impressive infographic, and to be honest, it was very insightful into fracking. I have heard a lot about it, and that it's bad, but haven't really bothered to educate myself on how it's done and what the impact is. So yeah, I am glad something like that ranks, as for this topic, I certainly want word to spread!

If it's all about the links, then question should be how do you create a page (site) that attracts so many links, and design would be less important (even though the cool design probably attracted a few links of nice design amateur or whatever).
