Default Regulations in progress for the US market?

    http://loukrieger.blogspot.com/2007/...ooming-to.html

Nevada Congressional Delegation Seeks Study of Online Gaming
Nevada congress members Shelley Berkley (D-NV) pictured right, and Jon Porter, (R-NV) are working on legislation that would require the National Academy of Sciences to conduct an 18-month study of online wagering. A bill is expected within the next few weeks, and its supporters believe that the study will assure Congress that safeguards are in place to adequately regulate online gaming.

“The purpose of our bill is to provide a comprehensive study with detailed information on the expanded growth of Internet gambling," Berkley said.

When complete, the study will also set the stage for legislation after the next presidential required to enter this market in the future.

When asked about the repeal of UGIEA, AGA also said they wanted a study of the regulation of online gaming.

This is some info from AGA:

So when do you think we may be able to see certain changes in the industry?

do you really think that US will come back to online gambling?

For some reason I doubt that it can happen really soon and even after the repeal, situation will still be unstable.

I wonder what profit land casinos are getting now and how well is the bookmaking business going in US

The study alone will take 18 months, I doubt they pass or change anything before then.. I believe the prediction was hopeful for 2009. But like you said, the situation will be unstable, so maybe even longer before anything really happens.

By then there will be a new presidential ellection.. the outcome of which could have everything to do with how long we'll have to wait. *has a scary thought*

Please oh PLEASE don't let Jeb Bush run for president! EVER!

    Hi all,

first ..... if Jeb ever runs for prez ..... I'm leaving ..... passport or not. (hope I don't have to eat those words).

I mean can you imagine. Poppa B .. who was director of the CIA for years (I beleive it was 10) before becoming VP for 2 terms.. P for one ..... and who was likely to have had his thumb (and most of his greedy hands) in the pie that got W elected (or election stolen as I prefer) ..... had his choice of the two ... and chose W as the best bet ....

imagine what an idiot Jeb must be?

    freakin' scary!

    .....sigh.

    anyway ....

how well is the bookmaking business going in US
got to be in the toliet for a long, long time now. I'd guess less than half what it was 10 years ago.

I live in Kansas City. Used to have a friend who lived in Vegas. The bookies around here bumped the spread on the chiefs (a football team) by as much as 2 or 3 points because the line was so lop-sided ...

I'd bet against the chiefs here ..... and on them thru my friend in Vegas. Get a window of 2 to 3 points ..... and not just any points .... but the 3 closest to the bookmaking industry's best guess as to the outcome and trust me .... those guys are seldom wrong ...

and catch a window where .....

I had might have to lose one way ... win the other. (10% juice)

a very good chance it would come out where I won both ways. a bad day was where they tied one way .... and won/lost the other ... very seldom happened.

It was sweet. Most times if anything .... it ended with the bet where the spread was bumped ..... lost the bet (bookies loved that here of course). But in many of those cases .... and for those in the know ..... know a bet between any two AFC west teams was usually decided by a field goal ... i'd win both ways.

    sure miss those days.

Reason? I can't find a bookie nowadays here around town. If i did ..... its unlikely they'd still use the "bump the home team spread" like they used to do.
Almost Here! How would you like to be able to get not just one sign up from your player, or even a couple, but every single casino they join from here on? I've a plan that can make that happen and it will likely also tell you every time the player is active within the casino.

I think it is a good idea that congress is allowing this study to take place. Maybe they will realize how big of an industry online gaming really is, and they would consider legalizing it again (with a price of course).

But, governments are all about money right. So, if they can find a way to regulate it, and be able to make some profit from it, it is only common sense for them to allow it back to the US.

I hope the study goes through, and I would be very interested to see the results of the study, and when it is presented to congress, what the reaction will be.

It is a good step in the right direction to get us back to be able to gamble online.

hi, first about the study of online gambling...

if you have specific details about it...is it covering global gambling online or US part only? all segments or casino and poker only?

i am really interested to learn about betting exchange and spread betting...these categories of gambling attract me most and would be fun to offer a guide for people interested in betting exchange and betting p2p.

tradesports is particularly in good shape here.. so it could be really helpful to learn about shifts and patterns in this part, what countries do more of this and how do they find about it...in UK maybe directly since they have SportingIndex and Betfair but what about other countries and players?

By the way regarding someone's commentary regarding the "absence of the bookie near the corner". One of my first clients used to work in the costa rican betonsports and he told me that they really were anxious about players not from US since for example most of european countries have their own reputable sites/bookmakers and people would only search for more distant ones for money laundering.

as for wagering being in toliet....well americans still bet don't they? so the money flowing from one pocket inevitably settles in another and i'm just wondering whether there is a number of serious land based bookmaking operators or it's just spread throughout the country...in this case it could be a good idea to create a guide of landbased wagering operators with maybe their info, location and similar

I've started one thread regarding the eastern european online gambling and being honest with you that's what i see looking for firm regulation and control and US is just making a big mistake...could not they provide some kind of license and collect cash from operators offering these services to US residents?

this looks like a big big fart where it spreads in the air without having a center emanating the stench but it does not have borders and the wind that blows only moves it to a new place without suppressing the odor

    weird analogy , huh?
