I just learned a little while ago that Gary Beal, who went by GaryTheScubaGuy in the forum, has passed away.

Personally, I've known Gary for many years. We always laughed about the time we happened to stumble upon each other taking the ferry from Hong Kong to Macau close to a decade ago - one of the last places we expected to see someone we knew.

Gary was always someone who would try to help others. He made many contributions in the forums here, especially in the SEO forum that he moderated. And we published a half dozen SEO articles he wrote in the GPWA Times Magazine. You can see the articles of his that we published here:

I am extremely sorry and deeply saddened to learn of this news today concerning Gary. Please accept my sincerest condolences, Michael and Anthony. RIP.

My older brother passed away also in October of last year. He was only aged in his mid-forties.

Life is much too short.

May his family and loved ones receive comfort.

I did not know him very well outside of the forum, (although I did PM him back and forth many times over the years about forum related stuff) however I met him at an SEO conference in Orlando back in like 2003 I think....and his sense of humor was something I always remembered.

I met Gary at a conference I believe it was in Niagra Falls several years back. He was an interesting person to me and his story about how he got held up at the airport by customs was truly astonishing. Very enigmatic individual - he reminded me of my brother. I am so extremely sorry to hear of his passing. May he rest in peace!

I met him a few months ago in Malta. He was a remarkable person with endless energy and 200 % positive attitude. I just can't believe that the worst has happened. RIP, Gary I know you watch us from somewhere and you keep laughing and making those special jokes of yours.

Rubbish news when I found out on FB yesterday. He was a controversial character, a little bit like marmite, but if you actually took to the time to get to know him, he's a good bloke. He definitely left his mark on this industry.
