Default .ru sites linking to mine? What does this mean?

Checking my stats, I see some .ru sites are sending me a wee bit of traffic. Example:

    prederzhashiy.ru 5
    weapon.novostnoy.ru 5
    sport.novostnoy.ru 5
    pornoseti.com 5
    artkover.ru 5
    slonyat.ru 5

Some are harmless copies of one another. However, the 'pornseti' one seems to be a comprehensive reference manual for gynecologists, so you might want to avoid that unless you are interested in female medical matters. Or male.

Now, I don't understand how these sites benefit by linking to me. Are they trying to get me in trouble with google? I'd sure like to know, and see if there isn't something I can do about it.

    Thanks!
    Janet

They shouldn't get you in trouble. Google knows you have no control over who links to you. Is the .ru russia?

It could be what I like to call "stats spam"

I usually see a bunch of domains I don't know anything about linking to me in the stats, but when you go to the site.. you cant find your link.

Someone once told me it was an attempt to get their domain to appear in your stats log, which could be publicly accessible by google, giving the spammer a link back.

Thanks! Doesn't seem to be a threat to me, then, eh? That's good news.

No trouble at all! I think the way Google works is, even if you got links for "bad neighborhoods" they won't penalize you for it, but they wont give you any benefit.

Because one thing a webmaster can't control is the links pointing to them from bad neighborhoods.

I believe what Google does with these bad neighborhoods is just punish them in the serps, and not pass the link juice from their websites on to sites they link. Basically make all the work they have done - worthless.
