Default Running an online gambling forum?

    Hi
I was thinking of starting a poker/casino - all gambling related things forum. Is it easy to run it? I know that 90% of forums are dead afer 6-12 months because people are not making post there... can we attract users by paying for posting ? ( like weekly posters contests where top posters win some $$). What about making referral contest to help forum grow and where forum members can invite their friends?? What do You think?

Referral contests will work for a couple of weeks, but that dies out quickly unless you continue to offer a new weekly prize for the most referrals. One of the best ways to pick up new members is to visit other forums that have a "friends" room where you can post about your forum and any contest you may have running. But the only sure fire way to keep your forum alive and well is to find 'GOOD" casino, poker, bingo sponsors that are willing to sponsor contests on a weekly, monthly basis for new and existing players.

Free chips, match deposit bonuses are big with forum gamblers, and you also need to have some mods who can keep up to date all threads, answer all questions and start posts that are interactive with your members. Take a look at gambling forums like "The Streak Gambling" or The Hodgepodge...these two gambling forums have been in the industry for numerous years now and are still kicking butt. Take notes and see how they run their boards....its the best way to see what works and what doesn;t. do your homework.

I think giggles has made some excellent suggestions, you should definitely follow that lead. About referral contests, I don't think that a bad idea at all, it will catch your members attention in a good way and you can never really go wrong there. I would definitely encourage you to start doing that too!

    Best of luck to you!

I came across this old thread and I feel the OP posters pain even today. I've been trying to get a new forum going and its not easy. I'm thinking of sponsoring gpwa if possible to communicate with the community. Michael, I sent you a message Please let me know if we can sponsor a section for my forum. Thanks a lot!

i used to run two [poker] gambling forums. I found It was easy to build engagement w/ poker leagues + stuff like that, and also get people to rake.
Brags/beats / WWYD threads also consistently delivered engagement.

You could even do ads on TV, but it makes no sense. An empty forum stays an empty forum.

Why people sign up to a forum and post? Because there's interesting information for them and discussions they want to join.

Paying people to post is an option, but quality is usually low. But at least it doesn't look empty anymore.

Forums are pretty much dead compared to how they used to be, not like the good old days of 2004

Forums are like poker - nearly dead. There were few big waves of interest for both and then they suddenly went to "sub-zero" world.

The gambling industry picture is changing every second and we all have to be up-to-date in order to succeed in a very competitive "ocean".

That's a great idea but it could end up as a spammy forum with lots of promotions from different gambling sites. Definitely need a good moderator and I'm not sure if you alone (without help) can do it.

At the moment i see several big forums on i-net, that has moderators and maybe a celaning system for spam and they look very good. Im talking mainly for sportsbetting. I think they has a good traffic and there are different types of sport communities.

Forum is a good thing, but its also hands on for you or someone at least. Used to be great from collecting mailing lists obviously but I have not sent an email to my players in over 3 years so I don't even consider that anymore.

fwiw @OP and everyone else with a forum, you want to be running a discord channel, not a forum. this is 2019.

Telegra, You Tube, Facebook, Twitter and Reddit - these are the new kids in town.

Forums are mostly dead. i.e if you are not in Turkey , there are loads of good forums, with good sports betting tips. But we all know why is this so.

We will test out a new forum for slots players but if it doesn't work out then we will close it. We are trying to build a forum using yii2 framework and my programmer recommended to keep all of our software connected and on the same php framework
