why are you reinventing the wheel? something wrong with existing forum software, or do you just like to burn $ on dev time?

The most popular forum software in my opinion is
    VBulletin
    PHPBB
    MyBB
    YaBB

Although there are others, those are what I see the most in forums I visit or have visited over the years. Those are the most likely candidates for the "self hosted" choices also.

Most of those also have the most active support options and readily available plugins or add-ons.

Whatever option chosen, I recommend picking one that has a spam-o-matic type plugin or add-on that integrates with Stop Forum Spam as it can save a huge amount of time in spam control.

Thanks for the forum software information Rick. I am currently building a forum at https://www.gamblerock.com/gambling-forums/ using a WordPress forum plugin called bbPress. However, bbPress forums do not seem to offer very robust software and are lacking features like a recent posts tab in the forums or user signatures. If I change the forum software its probably better to do it now while its still fairly new. Do you know if any of these mentioned software providers have a plugin to import bbPress posts into their software to convert the existing posts over?

We just want one user database and not multiple databases. Don't want to use sub domains and using yii2 framework is possible it will cost less than having to pay for vbulletin.

I run phpbb and vbulletin forums for long time, honestly both are total sh1t
phpbb is classic free thing, where you need a dev to have it constantly working
vbulletin (as gpwa) is paid, probably nr1, you have it more user friendly (but not user friendly by far), you can buy extensions, that are handy at first, but then you realize that you installed virus, adware or something like that and no one gets responsibility (happened to me with some SEO plugin)

I HEARD simplemachines forum is better. But I just heard it, not tested it. I am pretty sure that after years of experience it would be the same. But anything is better than some forum on WP I guess.

ass-blood sucked by the first from the last is his own

True. Everyone is on Telegram/Discord these days. GPWA is one of the few forums I use.

I think it will be hard to do alone, but everything is in your hands!

It's funny, coz Discord isn't too different from how bulletin boards started...back in the 90s, before internet forums ruined that scene.

i absolutely disagree that forums are dead... most forums still have thousands of active users, and attact much much traffic.

also when it comes to gambling affiliation... i know lots of casinos who get a lot or even most of their ftd’s through forum traffic... offcourse lots of ****** forums as well (there are a lot of no deposit forums, but they send the worst kind of traffic), but the big ones are still alive and kicking...

and dont forget... this is a forum as well
    Life is a gamble
