Default Safer Gambling Banners On Social Media

    Dear Affiliate,

The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) has been working with a number of operators to make amendments to the IGRG Code around protecting vulnerable customers from viewing gambling ads when online.

Following on from this, new requirements have come into place one of which being the need for operators and affiliates to regularly post safer gambling content.

As such we have created the attached social media safer gambling banners which we would expect to be posted once per week on your social media channels.

    The banners for this can be found in your affiliate account under;

    Marketing Tools
    Get Your Ads
    Advanced Search: UK-Bet ExistingCustomerFeatures

Any questions at all please ask.
    Regards,
    Betvictor Affiliates Team

Just recieved this - first I've heard of this being a requirement on affiliates.

Just seen it too. Can they really expect people to display it once a week?

Yes, I got this. You only get this nonsense from betvictor. Of course there is no requirement on affiliates. Delete email and forget.

There have been some changes to social media advertisement which I'm waiting on our compliance team to update me with after a meeting 2 days ago. I wouldn't put this one aside just yet. They mentioned the social media stuff is very painful so they may just be ahead of everyone else in this request.

Once I find out more I will come back.

This will most likely become industry standard, so I wouldn't write it off.

If it becomes industry standard, I guess the question is are we going to be expected to reel off a (branded) version of the message for each program we all work with on a regular basis, or will there be something generic that doesn't feature a parent brand so one tweet/post fits all.

Some further correspondence on this with affiliates required to accept these terms by 1st October:

2.2 Betting and Gaming Council IGRG Code ObligationsIn addition to the obligations set out by Clauses 2.1 and 2.14, you must carry out the following actions in accordance with the BGC’s IGRG Code:itarget your adverts to a 25+ audience when you advertise on paid social media channels;i) restrict your audience to 18+ when you advertise using your own content on YouTube;ii) devote the subject matter of at least 1 post per week on each social media platform you use to safe gambling;iii) comply with further identity verification checks which we may periodically commission. We require your compliance with these to establish your continued suitability for membership of the Affiliate Programme.
@Renee - did you get any further with this yourself?

Basically everything in your quote there is applicable.

Anything posted on social media must have the fact it's an ad indicated along with relevant terms etc which was already the case.
So #ad, #advertisement, This is an advertisement, editorial, advertorial etc must be clearly shown with every ad.

The once per week responsible gambling post must happen. That is the main thing added. So once per week affiliates need to make a post about responsible gambilng including things like gamstop, gamble responsibly, begambleaware.org, 18+ etc.

Any affiliates working with PPC will need to make sure that their campaigns include blocking industry negative keywords so the ads don't show when they are typed in.

Any banners, images etc will need to show 18+, play safe etc.

Restrictions for under 25 and 18+ on everything.
Operators are also required to have KYC on any affiliates sending players from the UK, as well as doing PEP sanction checking. The PEP part of that won't really be visible to affiliates.

From memory that is all of it. If you have any more questions let me know and I'll ask my compliance guys for more info.

Like the most here said, it would become an industry standard. But is it mandatory from now on, or it will be in the future...

The difficulty will be for programs that will insist that their own banners are used. Hopefully more generic compliant banners will suffice.
