Default Say you have a backlink, and it is removed 6m, 1y, 2y later...

Say you have a desirable backlink, and it is removed 6m, 1y, 2y later. Is all the juice gone? Does some of it remain because you had it for so long? Or does the page that link was pointing to just lose value in the eyes of search engines?

I ask this because I have a number of pages where the backlinks have disappeared over the years. The sites were quality, but for whatever reason, the link is gone. However, I still see some of them in my Search Console even though the links are physically gone. I'm confused as to what exactly is happening and if I'm still benefiting from that link or not...

Thats the biggest link building problem ever: continuity

Yes sure, if they remove the link - the recommendation of your site will be removed too!

And this make continuity in link building so super important. Once started you are a slave of this decision. Because you have to build back links consistently for several reasons. #1 Big G expecting a growing number of backlinks if started to grow a link profile. #2 you lose such backlinks sooner or later for tons of reasons. you have to compensate it AND you have to grow your profile. Otherwise youŽll start to lose rankings.

If started, you have to stick with link building.

I still see some of them in my Search Console even though the links are physically gone.
btw. youŽll see disavowed links in SC too!

There is something we call Link echo, but yes once the link is removed you will definitely loose this juice.

This irks me to no end. There are some obviously spammy links that we have disavowed over a year ago. First we disavowed the domain as a whole. Then, after months of it still appearing in Search Console, we went ahead and disavowed every individual URL on the website that we could find pointing to us. Still this **** remains... I don't know why.

I agree with eenzoo. You will lose those signals (link juice). We have found that we always found that our highest quality links, which are those we do a lot of work for are the ones that stick with us the most. I can't tell you how many time we have tried link exchanges only to find our partners remove the sites. Very frustrating.

I have disavowed many links myself but they also still show up. You just have to hope Big G knows you disavowed them and is taking that into consideration.
