Scientists take first-ever photo of black hole

WASHINGTON, April 10 (Reuters) - An international scientific team on Wednesday announced a milestone in astrophysics - the first-ever photo of a black hole - using a global network of telescopes to gain insight into celestial objects with gravitational fields so strong no matter or light can escape.

Is it really a photo - a real light image as we understand it ?
It sounds like it was constructed as a composite rendering of data received from radio telescopes all around the world.

Basically, it's another made up image isn't it ?

Pretty similar to what your brain does when you look at the world around you. Radio waves and light waves are all part of the electro magnetic spectrum. Your eyes receive light waves and your brain interprets that data into an image that you understand, even rotating it 180 degrees.

The image of the black hole was created pretty much in a similar way. An array of dishes around the globe looked at a distant galaxy and received a a crap load of data via radio waves which was then analysed over time and an image created. Only colour was added to make it look more natural.

And on a side note, if they really wanted a picture of a black hole they shoulda just asked Michael Caselli... he's happy to show anyone!

What I found the oddest, he first states that a few days prior, someone named Logan made a video about the black hole being fake, but then he later says "You heard it here first"....well both statements can not be truthful.

For me it is not a big deal... it is just a black hole...it would be way cooler if there was a picture of the event horizon or a picture of a "WHITE hole"
