SEO Advice

Hi Guys,

I need your expert advice, I had a affiliate website which I started about 5 years ago, last year I had to change the domain name and redirected all the pages to the new domain name, my question is after a year, I was thinking of removing all the redirects to the new domain and want to develop the old domain with a new website, what's your thoughts?

My idea is to use the old (5+ years domain) the best possible way and not to harm my current website

My advice would be to keep them until you are not ABSOLUTELY sure that all the redirects are lost and no one (other websites, backlinks...) need them anymore. 301 are permanent for a reason 8-)

If you use different URLs for anything other than the home page (leaving the old redirects in place) you can have your cake and eat it too.

I would recommend keeping the redirects intact.

As others have written, 301 redirects are permanent.

If you have a year, your domain rating will have been transferred in order, but there is no guarantee that removing the redirect will not affect your current website.

Also, if it's an old domain, there's no guarantee that the new site will be able to make good use of it.

As far as I know, there are countless examples of SEO benefits from utilizing a large number of older domains.

I don't see how that's possible. Right now your new site is doing OK, because Google realises it's essentially the old site on a new address. But if you change that, well, then Google won't look at it like that anymore. All your old link juice will go poof. All your old history will go poof. My advice would be to hold on to it for another year or two, or at least until the link power you get from the domain is miniscule compared to the new one.
