Default Sheldon Adelson voices opposition to regulated online poker

Sheldon Adelson, the chairman of Las Vegas Sands and one of the most powerful gaming executives in the world, has decided to oppose regulated online poker, according to the Las Vegas Sun. The Sun says it will now be very difficult for an online poker bill to get out of the House now.

Adelson has informed a key senator, Arizona's Jon Kyl, as well as the American Gaming Association. Adelson has told folks that he is morally opposed to web gaming, that technology to bar minors is untested and that he believes it will be an "unnecessary distraction" in 2012, the source told me. Adelson had been lobbied by many folks on Las Vegas Boulevard South, including, I'd guess, his new best friend, Steve Wynn.

The USA is becoming as conservative as Iran in controlling what it's citizens can and can't do.

The most ironic thing is the reasoning he uses.....

In my opinion, it's just BS anyway....

If he TRULY was opposed to the morality of gaming then (if he was HONEST with everyone including himself) then he would oppose ALL gaming but that is clearly not the case....

Stating something like this shows that he is not willing to be honest with the public or those he works with as well as the shareholders....

Obviously it holds true in his best interest to restrict online gaming as individuals would either:

    A) not have as much money to go to his LVS casinos

    B) They would not be apt to travel when they can get their gambling kicks right from their computer

Having said that Vegas is still a place people will trek to with or without online gambling and he is actually on board to be one of the developers or owners for the new Las Vegas Style casinos that will eventually be constructed in Downtown Miami at the old Miami Herald building. So it's obviously for whats in his best interest in this case and scenario and you can't blame the guy.

Online gaming has only increased land based traffic. One step forward, two steps back...
