A significant decrease in the amount of backlinks in Google Search Console

Hello everyone, I moved my site (casinos.fyi) to a new server. The only thing that has changed following the move is the IP address. The rest remains the same - same domain and same URLs. No redirects were needed.

I had over 2,000 backlinks showing up in Google Search Console before the move. Now I only have 74.

I imagine, or rather hope, that the drop is temporary and following the transition to the new server.

Has anyone encountered a similar phenomenon, which strengthens my claim that it is a temporary decrease? I'm a little worried it's something more serious.

Thanks in advance,
Idan

Check this article out, seems you're not the only one: https://www.seroundtable.com/google-...ine-37477.html

I recently migrated (about 40 days ago) and I'm seeing the same, though it could have been that way before.

I don't check GSC link counts that often. Once in a while, it may show a domain that blocked Ahrefs bot. Most of the time I'm looking at Ahrefs or some other 3rd party tracker.

Nowadays, you have to combine counts from multiple sources: Ahrefs, GSC, Bing, Yandex even. And good luck getting a complete view of your competitors without a substantial time investment.

Realistically, Google only wants us to care about our own links. And it's incumbent on us to track them ourselves.

I've experienced a similar drop in backlinks after a server move. In my case, it was temporary and the backlinks reappeared within a few weeks. Ensure your server settings and Google Search Console are properly configured. Hope this helps!

Apparently it was a glitch and has now been sorted: https://www.seroundtable.com/google-...xed-37499.html

Will take from 3 to 6 months to all backlinks migrate on the new site

Don't know why you bother looking in GSC for anything except indexation, health issues and manual actions. If the backlinks appear in ahrefs then google sees them too.
