    Default Social Networking Site Virus

For the past three months a virus dubbed "Koobface" has targeted Facebook's 120 million users. It uses the social network's messaging system to infect PCs, then it tries to raid your personal information. http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=4994363

It is extremely important that you keep your anti-virus software up-to-date.

I took the laptop into a shop as when it comes to the technical side of things I am utterly clueless and they told me there was nothing they could do and a new hardrive was needed... so £75 out of pocket but was still cheaper than buying a new laptop

I so think that maybe me getting angry with it when it crashed and tapping it slightly may not have helped either

Tapping - fixing it the Russian way eh, if that's the case you've got a terrible virus then because for what I knew if you caught up viruses and all else failed you can just reformat your PC for a fresh OS.

Likely a trojan running under reg key ... regedit.com. This infection would produce this result. I just fixed one last week without replacing the hard drive.

Cannot agree more. I visited my brother last month and he was having problems with his "new" computer. No virus software AT ALL. It would not download updates from microsoft so I figured he had a virus/trojan.

We installed Norton which removed 3 trojans and several viruses. Runs like a charm now.

We caught it just in time!
