Default spam from unknown sports group

Does anyone know who Inside the Line Sports is?

Did a number of you guys get the latest spam from these guys?

    xxhttp://www.itlsports.com/contact

The spam I got came from someone named Lisa Marcelo, and the subject line was "Sunday's Fifa World Cup Prediction"

    A quote from the spam
You're received this email as part of your subscription or account registration with our partnered website.
Only email related to your subscription or account will be sent to you.
Remove yourself from this list anytime, manage your email preferences here. or reply with "Remove" in the subject line.
They claim that I am only recieving this spam because I registered on their website which is a lie because I didn't register on their website, I had never been to their website before and in fact I had never hear of them.

I don't give a **** that I can now remove myself from the list by jumping through the hoop of emailing them with a specific subject line in the email because they have already offended and annoyed me by subscribing me to a list WITHOUT MY PERMISSION in the first place.

I don't care that they run an affiliate program because I will NOT even take the time to look at it now since they have used such a tactict on me already.

And if I were to look at their program the first thing I would look at is whether they allow other affiliates to use the same kinds pof spamming techniques that they just used on me....

....and that is using a reneted, purchased or otherwise compiled email list of names and then subscribing them WITHOUT PERMISSION....

I got it... but honestly have given up tracking down the spam. There is just too much and since I cant do catchall email addresses anymore (causes more spam problems) I no longer use unique emails each time I signup somewhere.

Unsubscribing requires user/pass... I emailed them and ask them who the partnered site is... doubt they will tell me.

I understand about the catchall, but couldn't you have just done a redirect to an actualy email address for each of the emails created?

I don't research each and every spam, but I did notice the spam I got hit with some weeks ago, the ones that I filed all the invalid domain contact forms about, I did a quick check on 8 or 10 of the domains and all of them were listed at Moniker as deactivated domains, so the registrars must have gotten enough complaints and recognized the pattern....

Not to derail the thread - but I could manually setup an email address (redirect, alias, new box, etc) - but that takes effort. With the catchall all email to anything @mydomain.com would have redirected to a specified mailbox. Just decided it wasnt worth it... especially after having to undo all the catchalls I used and still wanted I use spamcatcher for my spam - but only get it to work on outlook - wouldn't work on my server (version supposed to work in that fashion) for some reason.

As for ITL spam - I am waiting for a reply... I did get an automated email that my request was received. Always interested intrying to catch people selling my email.

    Good point Matt....

I don't use unique emails for specific programs, but if I did I would likely add the redirect in the mail server as I created the email account and then write the rules in the mailbox it was directed to, but you are correct this would be more time consuming.

I am interested in what they say if/when they respond.

    Hey guys,

I actually know these guys, and a few people on the inside. Do you want me to inquire with them any specific questions?

Bunch of good guys in my relationship with them, so for them to do something malicious or unethical just seems out of character.

Let me know if you want me to inquire with my account manager there and I'll see what I can dig up.

Yep, a newbie here. Enjoying all the postings on the site. Excellent forum.

If you have an email address or name, I can send over your comments and address to have them look into it?

Anyways, just trying to help. Let me know.

    Cheers,

I sent them an email asking for clarification... I received an auto-reply with a ticket number... no reply. So I sent it to them again - same process with no reply. I certainly would love to hear an explanation - it sounds to me like they are common spammers... but before writing them off as such, I'd love to see if you can find out how they collected the email addresses - and request they delete every email address they acquired via unethical pretenses (bought lists, email harvesters, etc).

    My "tickets" are:
    ITLCASE#1572
    ITLCASE#1529

Thanks for being willing to look into this. It's cooperation like this which makes GPWA great. Let me know if I can help you in return.

    Default Update

Spoke with my rep. there. He looked into it and confirmed your address is off their marketing list.

He said the initial list you may have been on was acquired through a subsidiary site of theirs that was compliant with opt-in permissions within their terms and conditions. Unfortunately he couldn't tell me the site due to privacy policies. I know...could be the template reply or completely valid, though they've treated me well since I've been with them, so I'll go on their word for now.

Also discovered during that time they were in the midst of upgrading their subscription management area to address recipients opt-outs. Checked today and saw it online.

    Hope that helps?

They suck, IMO. They did not respond to my emails. Nothing they did was ethical and may have been illegal. They cannot buy a list from another site (regardless if their T&C may have given them the right to sell the list) and not expect complaints.

I think it is funny how their privacy policies prevented them from mentioning the subsidiary... yet did not prevent them from buying a list.

Anyway - I hope they learned their lesson and do not send another mail to that list or buy another list. Seriously, I will complain to their ISP if I get another email and let them deal with it.

This was my exact same thought when I saw the response and the point that many of the programs don't seem to get....(or at leats they pretend not to)...

Most have clear terms and conditions of not spamming, and they will close an affiliate's account down for doing so, but they break their own rules recruiting affiliates...
