Default Study: 70 percent of Quebecers gamble

Less than two days after French-Canadian Jonathan Duhamel won the World Series of Poker Main Event (find all your coverage on CasinoCityTimes.com), a study by researchers at Concordia University and the University of Montreal says that 70 percent of citizens in the Canadian province had spent money in the previous year on lotteries, slot machines, video lottery terminals and poker.

    From CBC News:

The average amount of money spent was $483 a year.

Based on the survey, the researchers concluded that 41,000 Quebecers could be a risk of becoming pathological gamblers, or 0.7 per cent of the population.

Sylvia Kairouz, director of Concordia University's Lifestyle and Addiction Research Laboratory, said young men who play VLTs or gamble online are most at risk of developing a serious gambling problem.

"They play more often and spend more substantial amounts of money. Some also reported increased problems associated with alcohol abuse or cannabis use," said Kairouz.

I am sure that could probably be said about of 70% of Canadians in general. The lottery is definitely making up for a large chunk of those figures.

Yes, I am sure the rate in the U.S. would be high as well if you account for lottery play.

Yeah right, in that's the case, Canadian government should really regulate online gambling in Canadian provinces.

Apparently, there are over 18+ different lotteries offered by Loto-Québec and new lotteries are added regularly.

Lotteries can only be proved real by only those who have won it. Anyway, gambling regulation in Canada should really be pushed so that the money that is supposedly entitled for the tax revenues of the Canadian government should not be wasted.

Yeah right, online gambling regulation should really be pushed in Canada. They could even get a higher tax collection from lotteries. It could possibly save their recessing economy.
