Default Sundin signs deal with PokerStars

Mats Sundin, who has been an NHL star in Toronto for years, has just signed a deal to endorse PokerStars. Sundin is originally from Sweden and is a very popular player in both his home country and in Canada.

Sundin, whose contract with Toronto expired at the end of last season, has yet to decide whether he is retired from hockey or whether he will take one of the multitude of offers he has received in free agency.

As for his poker endeavour, Sundin will participate in online games as "MatsSundin" and in live tournaments such as the European Poker Tour. He said in a news release he plans to donate his poker winnings to charity.

"I believe the fighting spirit I've developed as a hockey pro will really help me at the tables."

I live in Toronto and have been a fan of Matts for years, I can't wait to see him play. This guy is class all the way and I am guessing a portion of any winnings will be going to charity.

Sundin's deal with PokerStars is under a little bit of scrutiny from the NHL league office, now that he has signed a deal with the Vancouver Canucks.

It appears, however, that he shouldn't have too much of a problem, since his endorsement deal is with the free-play domain PokerStars.net, and since PokerStars does not offer sports betting and is merely an online poker room.
