Sweden cracking down on unlicensed companies - affiliates also included in law
Sweden's gaming board has asked for information from Redbet Ltd., and they also requested information from 24Hpoker earlier this year. Companies must be licensed by Sweden's gaming board in order to accept bets from Swedish residents.
Under Swedish law, if the Gaming Board concludes that an operator is providing gaming services without a license, it has the power to order them to provide information. Companies failing to comply with the request for information risk being fined.
Anyone found to be providing illegal gambling services risks additional fines or imprisonment of between six and twenty-four months, depending on the severity of the crime under the country’s lottery law. The law also applies to affiliates that promote foreign gambling sites to Swedish residents.
The bone of contention, it appears however, is not that they accepting Swedish bets, but that there are Swedish employees. Are they referring to affiliates? If so, if you live in Sweden, do your homework!
