Default Swedish regulator working with financial authority to curb illegal gambling

Sweden’s gambling regulator Spelinspektionen announced last week that the government has urged it to work together with the Financial Supervisory Authority (Finansinspektionen) to combat illegal gambling, following the introduction of changes to the gambling regulator’s powers.

According to the Swedish government, the Spelinspektionen and the financial authority should work together to control financial transactions related to gambling. Collaboration between the two regulators will help them closely oversee the sector and will make blocking payments from unlicensed operators easier.

    From Spelinspektionen:

The work to ensure a healthy and safe gambling market and the fight against illegal gambling is of the highest priority for the Swedish Gambling Authority. At the turn of the year, several tightening of the Gambling Inspectorate's powers were introduced, and even more will be introduced at the turn of the next six months. As part of the work, the Government is now also giving the Swedish Gambling Authority and the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority the task of strengthening cooperation in order to have a better opportunity to control monetary transactions during gambling.

    - The strengthened cooperation with the Financial Supervisory Authority will provide good conditions for all tools to be used efficiently and result-oriented, which we see as very positive, says Director General Camilla Rosenberg.

Perhaps the Swedish Government (Spelinspektionen) should take a look at other countries and how they regulate it.
For example the Dutch government (Kansspel Authoriteit, KSA) does a good job.
Many many operators stopped in all ways offering services to Dutch players.

They give only one warning, after that high fines, enough staff to regulate and check illegal operators and so on.

    Cheers!

Fortunately for Dutch players, they still have very broad access to offshore operators, a small number of which block the Netherlands.

Conscious players looking for good deals won't be betting at undercut odds in a regulated market.
