Swiss online gambling bill will go to vote

A parliamentary decision to ban online gambling in casinos outside Switzerland will be decided by a national referendum.

According to SwissInfo.ch, citizens and political groups handed in the necessary signatures for their respective proposals last week. The signatures will have to be validated by the federal authorities before the government sets a date for the ballots.

Several groups from the political right and left and the internet industry submitted about 60,000 signatures, 10,000 more than required, to challenge a decision by parliament taken last year.

“Most people we talked to during our campaign in all different parts of the country don’t want state interference in legal online offer. And they don’t want protectionism for domestic casinos,” said Andri Silberschmidt of the Young Liberals.

The youth chapter of the Young Greens argues that the law restricts the free use of the internet but also lacks sufficient prevention to help people addicted to gambling.

The Swiss betting, lottery and casino operators supporting the legal amendment have accused the critics of relying on financial support from foreign online casinos to collect enough signatures for the referendum.

Failure to block internet access to online money games would lead to millions of francs being spent outside Switzerland, the operators warned.

Fortunately, women in Switzerland gained the right to vote in federal elections already in 1971. No, it's not an awkward case of transposed numbers. It's not 1917. So the women in Swiss are now very happy to vote also on online gambling.

Study of German University of Hohenheim shows, Swiss women less often gets addicted to gambling than Swiss men, but if they get addicted then faster than men.

Moreover: On the contrary to addicted Swiss men, many more addicted Swiss women have been heavily traumatised in their childhood. There is a direct connection.

So my prediction is, that you can expect a huge lead of Swiss women votes' to ban online gamling outside Switzerland or to ban it everywhere, because in a lot of families with addiction, it is more or less an open secret, that this addiction could be the result of a trauma, and so they see gambling as evil, even if this is a fallacy, because the trauma was first. Their thoughts are understandable, because in this cases for them gambling is a trigger for the renaissance of the old trauma.

I know, that the majority of this industry does not care about such things, but this is exactly the reason, why the creeping demise of this industry due to regulations and rogue programs is a warning signal, that something is wrong with the "only money matters" philosophy.
