TECH - Proper tracking HTTPS to HTTP...

posting this here instead of the private Tech forum as I feel here will get more answers, so back to the question:
Got the following issue, I started to move my old sites to HTTPS plus all new sites are with SSL as well for good enough reasons, but I'm facing the following issue which I either think is a issue or else. So when I got this site with SSL on HTTPS but some of the affiliate links I send to are on HTTP only - several programs have such links, I think we will have a problem with tracking because I don't have a tag <meta name="referrer" content="unsafe-url"> in the head part so the http page will not know who sends the traffic hence no tracking happens, in general talking for sending traffic from Secured to nonSecured and I don't feel like cookies will ever be dropped there. My question is even if I add such tag as above mentioned will it work, or overall do I need to implement it at all?
Would appreciate advice here, I guess lots of you move to SSL sites and will face similar issue as well
