Is There An Archive Option In Wordpress?

In Joomla there's an archive option and I was wondering if there is something similar in wordpress? Basically with it I can 'archive' a post to remove it from the main feeds (eg: so it doesn't show up any more in categories, blog feeds, 'latest post' style widgets and so on) whilst still leaving the post live and accessible through an archival section?

If so, is it also possible to schedule the archiving like you can in Joomla? Ie: On the 1st Nov a specific post removes itself from the feeds and goes into the archive?

Yes. Actually there are several opportunities, but I would suggest the "Archive Posts Sort Customize" - But just go to your plugins sections and type: "archive post" - in search field - and you will find your answers.

best regards

Thanks for that. From what I just read about it it just controls the display of the 'post archives' in wordpress right?

I'm actually looking for a way of archiving a post - but I think the term must be used differently for wordpress. What I mean is to remove it all reference or link to the post, except from an archival category.

For example - lets say I have a category called 'offers' which displays all of the offers I add to the site as posts. Once the offer has expired I don't want it to be shown in this category anymore as it's out of date and instead want it to be 'archived'. This enables the category to only show active offers - that make sense?

Like this in joomla: http://docs.joomla.org/Moving_an_Article_to_the_archive

Technically if you navigate to the top of a category it is labeled blog archive by default in WP. Without modification, your blog categories are archives :)

Cheers, but not what I mean - I'm trying to remove a specific post from the blog category so it doesn't show up any more. I guess the fact that wordpress calls their categories 'archives' is confusing things. Erm.. let's say 'file away' instead! :)

1. Make a new category named archive and change the posts category. From there do with the new category as you please. Oddly WP will name that "archive archives". You can do this via 'quick edit' for each post that expires. Here's more of a technical approach http://codex.wordpress.org/Creating_an_Archive_Index

Good point, not sure why I didn't think of that before.

Does require manually changing the category though... Ideally I'm looking for a solution where it can be done automatically when the article is scheduled to 'expire'. Think I might have found a plug in that can do it though, about to have a play now!
