Guys I've been a blackberry user for 5 years. I'm not waiting for the networks to announce partnership with the new Priv and word is their snubbing its launch anyway.
So the question is simple - Samsung Galaxy or iPhone? Has anyone tried both brands and made a decision either way?
I'm due for upgrade so ready to part ways with blackberry!
Samsung Galaxy all the way, S6 Edge plus in gold.. Iphone looks outdated people still buy them for namesake but all round better phone is the Galaxy by far..
I have carried an Android a few years and a Windows Phone over a year, and I prefer the Nokia Lumia, Windows phone.
I admit however that I use very few apps on either phone, as I refer to do anything internet related on a computer and allow that hacking of phone accounts to continue for others. (I can prove what I say is true as the increase in ddos attempts from phones and carrier ip space has seen a huge percentage increase, and have discussed the issues with a few carriers)
The main reason I carry both is up until recently a very specific app I run performs much better and notifies me much faster on Android than windows, however a recent update to the push technology of the app developer, has greatly improved and now notifications from this server app come in only seconds apart.
I think a portion of the decision of what OS to go with has a little to do with carriers and coverage areas also. The OS you are most comfortable with also has a great deal to do with your decision also.
My phones are from 2 different carriers since one of them has better coverage in the mountains of Pennsylvania where I have family that I visit when time and the wallet allows. One carrier recently did an upgrade and my Android now makes it connection using HD Voice when both ends support it and that has greatly improved the quality of voice calls, so any upgrade from a previous device is likely to make you feel better about the decision regardless.
I mean, you ARE actually planning on using the phone as a phone right? (laptops and tablets are made for the internet, but having the net on a phone helps if you need quick directions, need to look something up quick or whatever, a computer is for work)
Just be sure, if you gotta look at the dang thing....PULL OVER!

I use Android and find it does the job. It's the dominant phone / tablet platform world-wide with about 80% of new sales.
I've never owned any i-toys though - if you already have some Apple gear then you might find it better to stay that way.
Apple really lock you into their channel once you start though.
I had a Samsung phone and I had all sorts of problems with it. Mostly, the screen kept freezing. I also know of a few other people who had the same problem. My partner has an iPhone and has never had any complaints about it. I would say go for an iPhone.
I had samsung galaxy 2 & 3... now with iphone 5s and its the best in my opinion, much more stable
and very fast
I have a iPhone 6S plus and a Samsung Galaxy S6. Before I had earlier versions of both iPhone and Samsung Galaxy. I am not a Apple-fan and I do not have an Apple computer, tablet or whatever of their stuff. Samsung has way better specs, is easier to navigate for me, etc. But... it also has all sort of problems iPhone does not have: freezing screens, dead batteries, all kind of software problems... i've had it with every Samsung Galaxy I have had (and I have had S2, S3, S3+, S4, S5 and now S6). Samsung may have the better specs, bottom line iPhone is performing way better.
I have no preference. I just hope HTC will deliver some better work, than I'll switch to HTC.
Like Paul I feel that ipple does well with their lock-in and imo many who use their products feel they are locked and are often convinced by family members and friends to choose apple products.
There is no doubt that there are a ton more apps available for android than either of the other two formats and this will likely not change in the short term, but with the development cycle of Microsoft and the fact that it is becoming much easier to write apps for all of their devices, we may see a shift next year.
If the trend does go that direction, the shift from android to MS would be smoother then the shift from OSX, although android is not going away any time soon since they are becoming much more embedded within the educational systems also.

If you go for a Samsung s6 edge make sure you don't get the 32gig, it wont be enough. I have the 64gig and it is perfect. It works on my smart TV incredibly well, has good GPS, loads of free apps, good sound, 4K screen and takes 4K video and awesome pictures.

I've tried both samsung and iphone (not my own phones but through friends etc) and then opted for the HTC One.
I've had 2 HTCs and both have been amazing phones. I'm looking at upgrading to the newer HTC when it comes out providing I like it when I play around with it. My only issue with it is that it gets rid of the speakers on top and bottom of the phone which is one of the best things about the current one I have.
I use my phone for as many things as I possibly can. My only complaint about the HTC is that the screen is hard to see in sunlight. Apparently they are fixing this in the new release. The battery is decent. If I don't use the phone it will last a few days. If I'm on it every 2 seconds it will usually last until I get home. I think using the phone on and off all day it will last about 15 hours.

For some people the battery is a big issue and I can understand them if they can't relay on a device that can't work after 10-15 hours

I've been an iphone user for years and years now and never had a samsung so my opinion is probably not the most valid.
I think iphones are great though, they do everything I need - the only issue is the short battery life!
One of the apps I run on both my Nokia Lumia (Windows) as well as my LG (Android) polls a server checking an alert log every 60 seconds and is network aware at all times due to receiving a push from the server in the event of an alert.
I am pleased to say that even though both phones normally get charged every night, I have gone more than 20 hours (occasional use) and never had either one fail. The android has a 2 year old battery in it.
I do keep gps off unless needed, and run almost no third party apps, that is what I have a computer for.
Now, while in the mountains of PA, the android often does not get a signal and the constant trying to find one will seem to diminish the battery in a few hours. (I am not sure if the latest update allows me to turn off looking for a tower and only use wi-fi which would be a big help - BUT that is more of a carrier issue and less phone related)
In most cases if any phone is not giving you the battery life you want, research if that specific model has issues, but also look closely at any apps that run that do things like check email (stop polling constantly, raise the poll intervals, or set it up for push -if you can- instead of constantly checking the server)
Think about it,m do you really need to tell your carrier the address you are to 24/7? Are updates about finding out what people had for lunch on facebook really needed every minute or two?
Don't forget about screen brightness either. I usually set that a little lower with a fast action button with easy access to make it brighter if needed. You might be surprised how much battery that will save.
Also some phones tend to eat battery power quickly using bluetooth or when scanning wi-fi. Obviously keep these on if needed, but if not disable them and only use them when you need.
