Today I will be doing this!

On Saturday, my son decided to knock past my laptop that was on a stool, and whacked the screen with his Bob the Builder figure that he was carrying. Resulting in Bob's helmet cracking the screen. :no:

Now the laptop in question happens to be my new Sony Vaio with an i3 core processor, 4GB of ram, blueray player and lots of other bells and whistles, which I bought a few months back, so cannot justify replacing it.

So I had to order a new screen, which was quite reasonable at £56 + p&p. But I refuse to pay the cost for replacing it.

So this is what I am going to be doing this morning.

I thought Bob the builder was supposed to fix things not break them :no: His services have really gone downhill :P

I remember I did something very similar when at Uni (minus Bob the Builder and more a combination of severe writers block and a pair of headphones that were more aerodynamic than I expected).

It cost a fortune to get fixed! Had I been able to see YouTube through the smashed screen, I would have given it a go too!

Actually that would be a good idea, then play it in reverse to put it back together.

Make sure you keep an eye on all the screws and where they came from. Last time I took a laptop apart (it was more than the screen mind you) I had like 5 screws left over. :no:

What would be do without youtube and the millions of other internet resources? Just makes doing what you need to be doing a whole lot easier.

lol, I agree. I was looking for a resolution and found the end was a DOA! Dean on arrival. bummer ending.

Interestingly enough, the screen fitted in my Vaio that I replaced was manufactured by LG. The replacement screen is a Samsung model.

I was mildly surprised, I would have thought Sony would have manufactured their own screens.

If anyone is ever unfortunate enough to have a broken or cracked laptop screen, I can wholeheartedly recommend http://www.laptopscreenonline.com/

Ordered replacement on Sunday and was delivered Tuesday by courier.

All I can say is you're lucky it wasn't a Barbie doll. They do a lot more damage. Especially if they get stuck down the toilet.

Bob's a pretty laid back sort of a bloke.

Dave I wish you had been around in the early days when.....
Hubby and me managed to buy our first computer ( A Packard Bell ) in 1999 but we couldn't afford to buy a computer cabinet so we used to have it on the dining room table with the wires going across to the wall, so you had to step over the wires all the time.
This worked fine for us, but try telling our dog this when she heard someone at the gate! Of course she went flying out of the dining room and got tangled in the wires , resulting in the computer landing on the floor in pieces. We were nearly in tears because we had only had it a few months and still hadn't learnt how to do a simple thing like a backup, so we lost everything and had to save up for months beore we could buy another one.
Needless to say - When we got a new computer we bought a computer cabinet too!!!

That must have been an awesome one. Sounds like you had a hell of an experience. Do you mind sharing?
