I'm not sure about the UK, as more and more pensioners are leaving the country for decades. First they were buying properties in Spain, France, Portugal..., then it became a bit expensive markets, so they moved to find houses in Croatia, Bulgaria, and maybe Montenegro.
So I'm not that sure that an average pensioner can afford a good living in the UK.
Also, I'm curious why there are no New Zealand, and Australia on the list.

Be welcomed, Nenad We have amazing mountains in Bulgaria. I know that in Serbia you have Zlatibor, THe Westert Stara Planina and Denari.

The Balkans are amazing place to see - good people, cheap food and drink. Not forgetting to mention the music

it might be two ways. one - it's if you was born here, in this country. ans second - you move to this country to live here when you are old. and, of course, the first way is much better

I would definitely go to Albania. Very nice country. Great contrast between sea, plain and mountain landscape. The country is fairly cheap and perfect weather for once you get older. Get a nice real estata for < 100k with many acres of land/property!

Once I get things done with my site Im going to execute this plan. Build my own homestead! lol

I know a bit about Bulgarian mountains, but always can learn more! Yes we do have great mountains as well, but exploring the neighboring countries is nice as well!
Regarding the Balkans, you're right. Very nice place to see, everything is nice, just to sort out the way of thinking (here I'm talking about my country) and everything will be perfect.
I will be free to contact you if and when I go to Bulgaria, so you can give me some tips for which places to visit, what kind of food to try, etc...

I think when you are getting old, it's not about warm climate like South America. Tropical weather to those not used to is not very funny.
I currently stay in a 3rd world country in the tropical region, and I love it. Friendly people, always warm, I can go snorkelling every day, fresh, tasty fruits everyday, and even internet working ok.

But when getting old, it's more about being close to the familiy, safety and health care. And where would you like your heart surgery or your artificial knee joint made: in a country in SA, Eastern Europe or in a first world country like Switzerland?

So if you dream of living in a tropical country with low cost of living, then move to it now. Don't postpone it to the time where you will be "old". Because then, you probably won't do it anymore.

I think healthcare becomes one of top priorities when it comes to getting old. For me, since I was in the US military access to US veterans healthcare would really help if I left the states. That limits my options to Europe, Philippines, Panama & Korea (unless the US invades another country soon).
I had friends tell me that Portugal is a place to look into if I want to live in Europe.

Also Italy is amazing , especially the South. Many islands and amazing food and tons of sun and nice wine.

Yes I love Italy. Rome and Venice in particular. Florence was great too. Naples is our next Italian destination to visit

I definitely love Italy right-after my home country - BUlgaria.

Let's see and name some good places and cities over there :

- ROme - just amazing, every stone is saying sth to you . Caster San ANgelo - my favorite place.

- Siena - Il Paglio, google it and you see it.

- Bologna - the home town of the oldest university in Europe. Just great city.

- Florence - Uffici museum and the square in front of Santa Croce - where is played the real football game, sth very common to rugby.

- Triest - many Italian movies are shot there.

- Verona - the most beautiful Colloseo , where many concerts take place each year. Also the home town of Romeo and JUliet.

- Venice - been two times and would love to go 2002 more.

- Modena - home of opera art and very close to Maranelo and close to the fatories ot Lamborghini and Ferrari.

- MIlano - it is very bautiful and magnificent place.

- Lago di Como, lago di Gara - just lovely lakes with good people, food and marvelous nature.

- Sirmione - just goole it as well, the bluest water I have ever seen and the amazing gelato with the most powerful taste.

Yes, cuisine is very common, but although we do like salads, the best salad in our country is roasted pork

I must admit very beautiful place. Just you have to choose South ciuntries like Spain, Portugal, Italy, Serbia, Crotia, Slovenia , Greece and Bulgaria ))

It all depends on what one is looking for, what are his priorities. I don't think you can find a perfect country to live in. Each has its pros and cons, so it's all about what ticks your boxes.

I live in a country where you constantly have mixed feelings. At times you love living here, and at others, you cannot believe the **** that happens every day and how the average joe is treated.

Countries like Spain and Greece seem the most appealing to me when I ponder living elsewhere. However, if I were ever to move, I would seriously have to consider the tax policy of said country, just like all of us in this business.

Can vouch for Norway, but if you are moving there now would be a good time to start saving for that pensions, as it is suuuuuuuper expensive. Like 12 euros a beer-expensive.

Also, fun fact, most people there want to move to somewhere warm when they get older. With the sout of Spain being the top option
