Two leading Republicans have endorsed Democrat Barack Obama's bid for the presidency. Lincoln Chafee, a former Senator from Rhode Island, and Jim Leach, formerly a member of the House of Representatives from Iowa, have both announced that they will back the Democratic Senator from Illinois.

You may remember Leach from such anti-Internet gambling legislation as the UIGEA.

It is notable that both of these former Congressmen had previously been very popular Republicans in their home state and lost reelection bids surprisingly in 2006, in large part because of the national fall from grace of the Republican party.
