Default U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales has resigned

His political agenda has finally caught up with him. I wonder what this means for the UIGEA.

The Senate Judiciary Committee looked into whether the administration may have fired some or all of them for political reasons. In his testimony before the committee on multiple occasions, Gonzales repeatedly seemed to contradict himself, other members of his department, or Justice Department documents.

The attorney general also testified that he could not answer dozens of questions because he could not "recall" certain incidents or meetings.

This won't affect the law or the policy one bit. This will delay the issuing of regulations designed to enforce the UIGEA. That means that for the most parts, U.S. banks and other financial institutions will use their best guess (and bank's best guesses are usually very conservative) as to how to obey the law.

Could you expand on this a little for me since I have trouble reading between the lines concerning politics. Are you saying the result is that we are stagnated because of this resignation and nothing will change for now? What happens with the imega lawsuit since gonsalves was named, or is that a mere technicality?

    Thanks guys!

It's a damn good thing, no matter how you look at it!! So Rove is gone, too. That just leaves Cheney.... Things are looking up!

The "boss" of those district attorneys general has to be removed, for there to be a change in philosophy about the motivations to use resources to go after online gambling.

The right-wing zealots no longer have their advocate to back them up in spending all the time and money, not to mention some of the more unethical means they use, in prosecuting these cases. Politics is all about perception, and this is definitely politics.

If Gonzales was named specifically, then he will still be there as the one in charge when the issues arose. If it says, "Attorney General", that's different. I'm not sure which applies in this case.

The rep from iMEGA also explained that the suit only mentions Alberto Gonzales' name because an actual name has to be mentioned in a complaint as a matter of practice. He also emphasized that Alberto Gonzales is not personally targeted in this suit, but rather the real defendants are - the US Department of Justice (US DoJ), the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and the Federal Reserve Board of Governors.

I was extremely happy when I heard about this. Marc Lesnick actually walked around to everyone at lunch Monday at CAC to share the good news!

It may not have a direct effect on the law... However, it should derail/slow any US DOJ efforts for the time being. Essentially, there is no chief until senate confirmation. That means the US attorneys have no leadership or direction - and they tend to be more to the letter of the law. And even when a new chief is installed, the appointment will only last until January 2009 (unless they are reappointed to the post by the new president)

But the U.S. Attorney in St. Louis (Catherine Hannaway I believe) will still be doing everything she can to arrest and prosecute every Internet gambling executive she can find. She's the one who arrested Carruthers, and would be going for more if she could get her hands on them.

NOTE: I was not wearing my 'reporter' hat when I wrote the above statement.

which makes me wonder ..... or I should say explains a lot.... that most his blood doesn't end up in his head lol.

Almost Here! How would you like to be able to get not just one sign up from your player, or even a couple, but every single casino they join from here on? I've a plan that can make that happen and it will likely also tell you every time the player is active within the casino.

Could be something serious, like testicular cancer (a la Lance Armstrong).

Probably is just a big package... Why do you think Bush "has never had sexual relations with that woman." Best thing in the world would be for Bush/Cheney to be caught in a mens room at the airport.

I'll stop the political rhetoric now, as I know it can be a sensitive issue.
