Default UK online gambling marketing spending is on the rise

Nearly half of the 1.56 billion that was spent on marketing by gambling companies in Great Britain last year was invested online, with television advertising accounting for just 15% of the total, according to a report published by strategic consultancy Regulus Partners.

The amount spent on affiliate marketing climbed from 282 million to 301 million while overall marketing expenditure increased by 56% since 2014.

Other findings from the report include:

    • Direct online marketing in 2017, including banner ads and paid search, amounted to 747 million, almost double what was spent in 2014.
    • Social media spend jumped from 42 million in 2014 to 149 million in 2017
    • Offline advertising (print newspaper ads and billboards) fell 9% from 94 million in 2014 to 70 million in 2017
    • Between 2014 and 2017, spending on lottery advertising dropped, falling 3 million to 88 million.
