UKGC ready to announce new chairman

Marcus Boyle, a former strategy chief at an accountancy firm, has been chosen by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) to replace Bill Moyes as chairman of the Gambling Commission, according to a report in the Sunday Times.

An official announcement regarding the appointment is expected this week.

The commission has come under fire for its alleged failure to tackle problem gambling, and other candidates for his place included some from organisations which highlight potential harms associated with the industry and campaigned against them.

Boyle, 55, is reported by the Sunday Times to be "a more neutral appointment" to the commission, which is contributing input to the government review of the Gambling Act.

It doesn't matter who the new chairman will be. The whole company is just ridiculous and they couldn't care any less about our industry.

Update: Marcus Boyle has now officially taken over as their new chairman.
