Default US bans gambling but not alcohol?

Here is something to think about. The US banned online gambling because of a few problem gamblers.

So... Why hasn't the US banned alcohol because of it's alcoholics? It kills more people than all the other drugs combined, it causes more violence than any other drug. It causes people to go broke and breaks apart more families than anything else.

Maybe it's time to ban alcohol instead.

LOL- Prohibition didn't work. Just like the UIEGA doesn't work. Its not because of problem gamblers why they put this into effect. Just think of all the lotteries all over the states, and bingo halls, race tracks, casinos.

They did it for big business! And when they find a way to capitalize on it they will bring it back.

In the USA its all about control!!

    Agreed...

Once they find a way to tax you on it, it will be back and bigger than ever.

I am surprised they have not found a way yet. It doesn't make much sense really. But I think with in two years 2012 we will see some changes.

I am not sure if it will be better or not - LOL. Its like a catch 22 scenario.

Organized crime grew by leaps and bounds during alcohol prohibition.

Side Note: I really enjoy watching the new series Boardwalk Empire, it's all about prohibition in Atlantic City and Chicago and the rise of some gangsters including the young Al Capone, and they also show how corrupt politicians are.

Online gambling regulation in the US is one of the most important things to me right now because so many players are out there feeling worried or scared to play and make deposits at the few online casinos that will accept them. It just isn't fair to them to have to feel like they are doing something wrong. We definitely need to start some kind of movement to get this thing going.

And I know this is a little bit off the topic, but how does anyone get so drunk that they forget right from wrong and do terrible things? I have been extremely drunk before but I still had the right mind not to do something I wouldn't normally do. Well, besides just falling down alot and not being able to get back up.

Is it just an excuse to do things wrong or do people actually lose their ability to know when they have gone too far?

Also, is there a way we can take steps to gain recognition in the US of the need to regulate online gambling so that we can play without the fear of being prosecuted?

I say 'follow the money'. The US only feel threatned with countries who work with offshore gambling companies earning precious money that they would like to tax and earn for themselves. So the best thing is to say all the evils of gambling and place a ban on it.

It is all about the money.

    Yes indeed!

It is about the money not the morals. Gambling is evil unless the U.S. Government is getting their share, then it magically becomes acceptable.
