Using lean methods, A/B testing to start a site

Hey

I have been taking part of quite many hackathons and idea developments. Usually the startup ideology is that you first validate the need and then create a service or product. Wondering is anybody used the same approach.

For example our creative process was:
- make survey about what people are interested in certain niche area. Check the results but also feedback and filter out the things that do not raise any interest
- create several onepagers with call to action button. Buy some advertising space in FB and Google. See what is being klicked on (of course there are factors like choosing right target groups and how good your ads are). Check how many are moving on from the onepager
- develop service behind something that has some potential.

Has anybody tried something similar for gaming? Is it possible to buy some traffic without hassle for gaming sites from FB or Google?
